LIVE GAME Round 4 vs Warriors

Live Game Discussion
Fitness, execution and mental toughness will break our top 8 drought.
They outlasted the Warriors, had more stamina and importantly wanted that game more & as soon as they hit their mojo and played the way they want to play and Maddens kicking game were the difference.

Their fitness to start the season is amazing, they really must have had a brutal pre season! 😅

Let's hope the Luai question is answered in the next few weeks.
Madden 7----Doueihi 6. They now have a 3 games opportunity to form a great combo.
And Latu to make it more complicated.
At the moment Luai is behind the 8 ball IMO.
Let's not forget Luai let Souths in for a try last week. His defence is not perfect either.
Douhei played well, and he is in the 17 but Luai playing 6 is a no brainer.. he also would have shone outside madden last night,,, maddens passes were perfectly spaced to be ran onto and gave Douhei time and space.. luai has played 5 grand finals and won 4 so of course he adds to our team…also happens to be the captain and sets the tone of our defence

All those AD haters stick that in your pipe @Jolls put that in your analysis. What a win!!! No one gave us a hope, best win in years!! Twalenator!!! 😍
🤣 🤣 🤣 I'm not an AD hater and my opinion, based on analysis, was, prior to the pre season, that he wasn't the best choice for us as 7. He played well last night and he may have had 7 on his back - but that is not the role he played. Jock was the 7 and hi digging deep into the line and bringing AD onto the ball worked wonders. If you look at the most of the breaks he made it was a combination of the postioning and when and where the ball was delivered to him by Madden for the most part.

He has addressed his defence and it appears his attitude - but wearing the 7 doesn't make him a half - he has too many deficiences to be a long term 7.

Our forwards won this game for us. I don't think I've seen better first contact technique across 80 minutes from a WT side. Well maybe 70 minutes lol. Tackling was superb, and you can see the side is also in excellent physical condition, because we really grew into that match as it went on.

Bench rotation has changed 2 games for us in a row now. Benji and the coaching team deserve credit for finally getting a tune out of Royce Hunt. (its like a new signing) Alex Twal is also going beyond being 'the new Skando.' He was superb.

Jock Madden did a great job, but he's gotta do more to enter the conversation as a starting half. He did his job, solid kicking game but not superior to AD. AD tho, goodness me what a natural footy player he is. I think the decision to drop Skelton was the right one too.
How can you say his kicking was not superior to AD - he found the grass on several occasions and for the most part his kicks were well directed. If Tavana was in the right spot he could have had two more!

How funny is it. Those who think people who have been critical of AD as a 7 were proved wrong last night when in actual fact we were proved correct. AD showed he is a runner, not a ball player.

No idea why people are so sensitive about saying Doueihi isnt a 7. No one is saying he is a very good and valuable player

He is arguably the best player in our squad yet not a specialist in any position. We have to shoehorn him in somehow.

Im not going to rehash what has already been stated about last night - but there are a couple of lessons we can identify from the game overall.

Last week there was plenty of criticism for our ability to cross the stripe in the red zone agaisnt Souths. Well let's look at that a week on - the Wahs have been scoring 40 points a game so far and we held them to 14. they were unable to score from within the red zone - was it that Boyd and co forgot how to attack? Not a chance - they were running the same shape with the same personnel and getting no results - that was our defence! Souths did their homework on us and with a depleted side we were beaten by 4. Had we not lost AD and Luai there is nothing to say that we wouldn't have been last to score last week. The telling stat is that our points against so far is averaging 17. That is a top 8 capability right there.

There has also been plenty of talk about us needing shape to fix our attack. We don't "need" shape; it is a methodology that structured teams use to create deception and gaps. We are playing an eyes up style of play - what may look chaotic at times is what second phase play from cues looks like. We do have shape as a club in our golf bag but it isn't how we will primarily play. We will continue to play eyes up with players running good lines and when the opportunity to sweep/play shape presents we will do it. Madden, at 7 last night, played a more direct and at the line passing game than AD - but the cued second phase play was still there and, when the opportunity was right, we threw some shape at them. Our tries weren't scored too much by shape - but more by players being bought onto the ball where we had created gaps by digging into the line and playing late = time and space.

Do you think he can be a ball playing 13 roaming around picking his moments

Equally, it was the late at the line passes bringing him onto the ball that provided him the time and space to create - team game!
That was the best team effort for a long time Jolls, I didn't think they had a hope in hell to win that game.

When you take into consideration the amount of team disruption from recent injuries, they clicked into gear like a well oiled machine and gelled, hope we see a lot more of this through the season.
