LIVE GAME Round 5 "high shot crackdown" discussion *spoilers*

Live Game Discussion
I am still finding it hard to believe the try to level the score that the Panthers bombed in the last 5 mins of their game. Was it the centre who dummied instead of simply passing to his winger to stroll over, and was tackled without passing. Butchered the game for them- absolutely appalling. Teammates must be furious.
Yeah, Casey McLean...terrible play he had two outside him unmarked

Killed my multis too the bastard

Souffs might be a surprise packet this year. They’re playing tough and have a lot of desire. Similar to us… except they’re winning the close games (when is it our turn ffs)

They still have like 4-5 starting players to come back from injury also

It is really annoying watching modern day players get into space out wide. The age old skill of draw and pass is dying. If I was playing, I’d belt the bloke with the ball as 9 times out of 10 he will try and beat you rather than send his unmarked outside man over untouched.

What did Hollywood and Zorba used to call them, Bengal Lancers, if they can't make useful decisions why even have them, a mannequin would do a better job.
So true.
The thing is: what actual decisions are they allowed to make?
Once upon a time they had a job, the fans knew their job, and there was a sense of order.
These days, it's way different and this mystery about what they do just fits the agenda where the rules are fluid and changes happen to suit the back room boys.

I would think the main job would be to pull up forward passes, we have no technology yet that can decide that, anything else VR can pick up when a team asks the ref.

Open side helps set the defensive line and informs ref of anyone leaving early, the short side assists in monitoring the ruck and adjudicates forward passes.
Both obviously watch the sideline for anyone going into touch.
On clearing kicks whilst both are supposed to run back, the side being kicked to tracks the ball to assist with decisions such as caught in goal the other monitors the chasers for any interference.
In all cases except Into touch the ref can over rule them.
Their jobs are clearly defined to them, less so to the public. Not sure what their job once was but they don't seem to be doing a particularly good job in their current format.
I think long term the NRL should invest in forward pass technology and do away with linesmen. The tech is apparently expensive but mostly one off. Salaries are ongoing.

The narrative after the game will be how clutch Trell was to ice the game but it's the fullback that should be getting the praise.

I found both games dull and low quality for the most part. Disappointing to see the Penrith team not what it used to be cause if nothing else it they were to great to watch and can't see any current squad being anything close to that.
