LIVE GAME Round 7 versus Brisbane

Live Game Discussion
Since Madden was going so well, Luai offered Benji to come back in reserve grade.

In hindsight, that was a great idea because Luai looked rusty. He could have gotten his chops back in the reggies, while Madden maintained his rhythm.

Benji got this one wrong.

Nah mate.

You dont leave one of the biggest guns off the park

We need to evolve and maximise the balance and roles between our gun halves...

Doueihi is in great form as a footballer. So bloody valuable ti this team and provides so much spark. However he is in ordinary form as a 7 in regards to what the team needs him to do. If he could do the traditional 7 stuff and also play the way he is he woukd be a million dollar player. He just doesn't have the ball playing and it will cost us a finals spot if Benji sticks with him.
Or if he sticks with Luai, Doubie is a much better 6 at the moment than Luai. Luai’s played 3 games this season won 1 lost 2.
I know bunji won’t drop Luai, but he really should until injury or form drops. I reckon Luai coming off the bench would spark the team up, then doubie slots into lock.
Won’t happen, but should!

And none of the following factors should mean that Douehi at 7 is set in concrete;
*Preseason training with Luai and Douhie at 6 and 7
*Douehi's rapport with Benji
*Douehi's express desire and belief that he should be a half
*Douehi's leadership qualities
*Douehi's outstanding form when running the ball
*Fear that moving Douehi will affect his form
For the umpteenth time, Douehi is not a 7. Neither is Luai but he's played Origin as a 6. Madden is a 7 and had the team humming in attack. In my opinion, Benji needs to make the hard call. Jock and Jarome at 6 and 7, Douehi at 13 or 3, not sure which one.

Haven't watched replay yet.

Was at the game. Adam D was not the reason we lost against the Premiers.

Strong in defence and he stretched them in attack.

One thing I did notice is that Broncos did everything through Reynolds.

That could be jock into the other halves

You haven't watched the game yet you say Adam wasn't the problem. I'm not saying he is the reason we lost the game either. He actually played quite well in patches. What I am saying, is that he is not a half and that the lack of cohesion provided by our 6 and 7 is preventing us from scoring more points.

Terrell doing the ball playing forward thing has to stop. I get he can get an offload away at times but that has to be it. He completely halts our attack and we start looking like a touch team. Love the guy but leave it out TDM.
💯 👍

Agreed. I felt the rest of the team was not in sync.

This was a result of the halves not being in sync.

TDM does not stop.

Luai is a 5/8 and Madden a half back. Their jobs are not the same and Madden played half while Luai was out.

AD is the one that is neither, certainly not a half. People are so blind to his short comings it's ridiculous.

Luai hasn't been paired with a proper half back the whole time at the club but bleat about him being the problem.

Give Luai a proper half and you will see what he can do....

Madden isn’t going to automatically unleash Luai.
I don’t know why we rushed him back from injury. He played very poorly in this game just as he did last time he played against Souths. Similar tempo, similar lack of control.

Call him whatever you want defensively or structurally, but results matter. Doueihi has repeatedly been central to wins - whether it’s through goal kicking, clutch plays, or just steadying the side. That’s not something you can just hand-wave away.

Luai might have the higher “ceiling” reputation from his time at Penrith, but Doueihi has certainly been the more reliable contributor in this side across the past couple of seasons. He has earned his salary. We have to look at this critically. Which player out of AD and Luai makes us a better team? The results speak volumes currently.

AD doesn't make half back in any other NRL team let alone one trying to make the finals.

They need to find a place for him in the team for sure but not half back. Look at where he has been effective and it out wide running. Like a wide running second rower / centre 3/4.

He isn't a half back full stop. Until Luai has played with a proper half back at the tigers you can't compare his output with ADs.

Your trying to compare apples with oranges which quite clearly are not the same thing.

Your thoughts @Tucker ? Is he tackled or no?
At game speed I thought Api slipped off him and AD touched him on his way back up.
This photo pinpointing a fraction of a second in time seems to contradict that.
Shit happens.
I am more concerned that in that particular game, one suspect call could end up the difference. We should have been comfortably ahead at that stage.

Maybe it’s that old saying, “if you listen to the fans too much, before long you’ll be sitting with them in the stands.”

If Benji made decisions based on 15 minute samples of success or failure, faaaaaark that'd be confusing and you'd end up back where you started faster than you think.

Whilst I agree AD isn’t a halfback, neither it turns out is Luai.
Take AD out of this team and it becomes less threatening.
Take Luai out and it starts winning more.
What is the lesser of the two evils?

Tough game. Broncos were excellent and really dug deep especially in D. They were lucky in A and Reynolds was the main reason, singlehandedly getting the job done for them. Staggs schooled our outside backs with sheer effort and aggression in D. Their elite players won the game for them.
As for us, I thought we played pretty well generally but made a few too many crucial errors and overplayed at times. For example, Taylan May tried hard but made costly errors. TDM ran harder most times but needs to concentrate on that rather than ball play. Maka struggled with his game and probably needs a rest.
It’s fairly obvious that Bula is an X factor player and greatly improves our attack, hope he isn’t injured.
Our A is often a little clunky and slow and this hasn’t really changed since our first game, it was just the opposition D that has changed week to week. When we have come up against a team who is scrambling in D and desperate with effort to stop us, we can’t quite rack up enough points.
Maybe we should be listening to Benji. It really is early days and we haven’t achieved anything yet. We have had a few good wins but there is a long way to go. The right team balance will work itself out. Better squads than ours are struggling so far this season and are yet to hit their straps. We will win some and lose some and we will keep improving and make the 8, which realistically should be this season’s aim.

They had Haas, Walsh , hunt, carrigan, two hookers, lost their fullback during the game… and we had like 70% of the possession at one stage with somethng like 30 tackles in their 20m, and we scored once… lol

AD and Luai need an organizing half. Heck the team does.

It’s not fair to Api and the forwards who were belting players any busting their ass.

We were terrible.

Yes we only lost by 1, but if we’re genuinely a top 8 team we should’ve put 40 on the broncos under those circumstances

The Broncos are the benchmark we need to aim for when at full strength. We have a lot of work to do with the roster to be premiership contenders.

The way it will happen is some of the younger players elevating to the next level Makasini, Bula, Fainu x 3 and the older lads playing their part.

This game shows we are competitive with them minus star power. Haas, Carrigan, Walsh out and we’re close. With them in and fully fit we aren’t winning.

ANOTHER MISSED CALL

Brendan Piakura just charged by MRC for the crusher on Bula which wasn't penalized.

Yes we should have won that game but that's 4 very costly calls against us

All true but we need to remember we are flattered by the scoreline a wee bit. They scored 2 deadset tries only for them to be called forward. Really we should have lost by more.
They were forward . He passes the ball 3m before the line and the reciever catches it after the line . Both times . Great balls . But against the rules none the less .
