The team did an excellent job in both games in securing enough field position to win both games several times over, the halves let them down by not capitalising on it ......

Given the chatter about Benji putting the team on Doobie's back, and AD relishing the opportunity, it would be suicide right now for Benji to go against his word. It's only Round 8, team is 4-2, Benji is able to name his best backline. He will now see over the next few weeks what he's got in the backline he's been wanting to put on the park.

It's still in the win column, they got the job done. Doesn't have to look pretty just need to bank the points ....

But hey if you're happy to loose - each to their own .....

It's a NSWRL database thing. When this happens. often it means that it's an NRL player who hasn't yet played Cup this season and NSWRL hasn't loaded their profile.

Not sure why hooker is blank as Hope has played Cup. Only assuming centre is Makasini and half is Latu.

Not sure that is true yet. I actually believe the fact we didn’t score as much against the Broncs and Rabbits was less about our attack and more about their defense.
Those two teams defended like demons and saved many good attacking raids by scrambling D and great last ditch efforts.
In the games we won our attack and domination of the game wasn’t that much better, just the opposition wasn’t as good!!
I grant that our style of play looks different with Madden in but there are strengths and weaknesses in all the options.

Just pointing out that the attack with a "proper half" that day was not effective given our possession rate and dominance in stats and perhaps the reason why the coach is not as convinced as you about our best halves combination.

Word is Mak being rested for niggling foot issue as well.

Smart move by Benji to just give him some rest - the kid looks gassed.
 
Ok a backline of Laurie/Tamale, Kris, Timoko, Stuart is average. Weekes is great, Strange and Sanders quite good but v young as a halves pairing.

Luck, our errors late and Adam Reynolds got the Broncos home last week. Who is their Reynolds gonna be?

And for the record, on face value I think Madden could be the 7 in this team. He so far has shown he plays direct, straightens the attack, and has a great kicking game. But it's easy for you and I to write him in at 7, move around the chess pieces basing it on our lounge-chair opinions. We haven't been the ones working with the players and team, had the countless individual discussions and team meetings over the past 6 months laying out the plan and attempting to gain player and squad buy-in to the overall cause.

I'm playing devil's advocate, knowing how these environments operate. Benji can't bin it all without properly giving it a go. The loss of trust among the senior players would be irrecoverable, and his leadership credentials of flipping because of a little outside chatter would take a beating.

Yeah points well made.

I wasn’t surprised or upset that he stuck with AD this week.

I’ll say though, he finished the Broncos game with Madden at 7, so I don’t think he’s a million miles away from pulling the trigger.

Absolutely. I think the attack has been patchy at best but hold no weight for the argument that selections have been made to appease egos. Jock has delivered BM with an option that certainly puts Douehi and Luai on notice and that can only be a good thing.

I hope so. From what I've seen of him i think we get more value out of Herbert. We come in from the edges i don't think he had much choice on both counts. Look at thr Reynolds kick try
