TEAM LIST Round 8 vs Raiders

Team List
Maka pays the full price for poor halves combination that has shown will never work.

I get they are difficult decisions to make, but Luai/AD halves combo ain't it. Makes it a lot more difficult the fact that both AD and Madden were on fire.

Don't feel confident with all the chopping and changing, I like Luke L but he has the same if not more mistakes than Maka at this stage of their careers. Both raw kids and both you have to accept with mistakes - so why Luke over Maka when Luke won't even be here.
I just don’t get what the hell ur on about ,
1) maka got dropped , because of the half’s , that’s a load of bullshit , the kid had run his race as a 18 year old, would not have mattered who was 1/2s
2) AD has been the best half we have had this season, his running game and setting up players has been brilliant

I can't agree on 2. I agree that he has been a great running 6 and had a coupel of reasonable games at 7. What we need is to take advantage of the strenghts of both AD and Luai. That requires whoever the "7" is to attack the line - then AD can use the space to use his running game and Luai can use the time to make up his mind on what is happening in front of him. For that to occue we need to work our sets to either side of the sticks to open up one side of the field or the other. It is a suble change that gets around Madden at 7 to unleash AD and Luai. That is unless we are playing one 7 and two sixes in attack; ie AD to 13, Madden on for Twal when the conditions are set. the prerequiste conditions being that we have demolished them in the middle first - say 10/15 befor3 half time and the same before full time.

Read what the coach has said...educate yourself.

How long would you give it if Madden looks to be the better option at 7 Jolls, 2/3 games, in danger of dropping out of the 8.

Adam could learn a lot from Jock at training, how and when to dig into the line and create the good depth in attack he provided in his games so far, how good a player would he be if he could master this along with his running game.

Wonder if this is discussed amongst the leadership group and coaches, be disappointing if it wasn't.

They are so different mate.

Jocks ability to change his tempo as he takes it to the line is a natural halfback skill that AD just doesn’t have. His slow loafing style just isn’t suited to that role imo.

Quick ball to JL and a smart kicking game need to be his focus.

Weeks and Strange are the big danger. Weeks is a game breaker from anywhere on the paddock and probably a yard quicker than our fastest player. Strange is all footballer, and would be my SOO six outside Cleary.

In saying that I think we have most other players covered

RHS,

I'm speculating here but this is my guess at what is going on:
  • Benji has identified the deficiency.
  • Latu is dropping down to KoE to get some miles in the legs and develop his game as a 7. Not sure he will be back in the short term but he is the future so he needs development and if it works may take on the lead role in 2027.
  • Madden is there as backup and we will give AD 2-3 games to gel with Luai before anything drastic happens because the system is working.
  • It is possible, given the way the bench is structured, that if we kick the doors indown the middle Jock comes on as 7 when Twal takes a spell and AD goes to 13 in defence. In attack we play with a half and two sixes or AD simply gets a roving 13 assignment or for the 10-15 mins before half time and potentially full time.
If that isn't the deal surely we will modify our attack slightly. The issue is time for Luai and space for AD. We could choose to play a more traditional style with a half and 5/8 on one side when it is open and they could play 6/7 (I can hear my grandson in my head as I typed that) depending on if the shift is left or right to provide time and space for whichever "6" it is at the time. My reasoning for this is that we did that a couple of times agaisnt the Donkeys and it worked will against the Cows.

I'm really looking forward to what we pull out of the box tonight.

It really sucks defenders in too that change of speed to the line...cleary does it better than anyone

In the twenty, they'll be coming up hard at, so I reckon we'll see a few short kicks in behind the line to mix it up a bit, Luai is good at that.

And a few more drop offs with KPP and Sam, get the defence planted instead of pushing us to the sideline, mix it up.

And the obvious, discipline, no or few errors, we've been good this year, need to keep it up

I can’t believe everything I read on this thread about Maddens ability.
He is a back up half back who was brought back as cover incase of injuries.
Latu Fainu is a better option for the future and should be on the bench in front of Madden.

Latu also needs mins. Can’t keep playing 15-20 mins off the bench every week, if he plays at all.
