round two...sensible discussion..

Yes we need to take out the ball carrier.

I just remember Robbie Roccow playing for us and he would make a stack of missed/almost tacles. This disrupted the oppositions flow but did not stop them. Perhaps it can rattle some teams but the top teams will just ignore it.
I'd forgotten he even played for us

I found it very interesting hearing Adam O'Brien talk after the win last nigh that the fans are sick of hearing about the clubs rebuilding all the time as all they want is to be winning games?????? who true its a pity our club never seems to worry about this.As all we get is its about developing our youth, this takes time...blah blah blah i just want to start winning games this year not 2030 and beyond.

Id love to see them ask a bit more of the defense in the 20m zone...very frustrating watching the opposition just absorbing our possesion and waiting for the inevitable error

We shouldnt have to scramble as much as last week so Id hope we keep the opposition to a similar scoreline the knights managed

Last week was Luais first game in our colours and hes lumped with the captaincy as well in front of a home crowd with huge expectations....hoping Sunday hes relieved of some of that prerssure
Yep let API captain the side , Luai and API to attack , Galvin to play his normal heads up footy , we should have had 2 more tries last week in first half but had last years finishes in the red zone , no idea how to score

Parra have some speed we don’t seem to have and again we did buy well in our new Recruites but we never seem to buy speedy players , this game we need to be strong in defence , it could come back to bite us with a loss to the eels , if this did happen we will start to slump , we need a good solid win

Are you suggesting calling some of those 51 missed tackles “ineffective tackles”?
We clocked up 21 of those already.
There’s no sugar coating it here, almost at the rate of 1 per minute we failed to nail the ball carrier. We need to do much better.
But we did manage to get to the ball carrier. That’s a start.
No, what I’m saying is there’s no way you can hold an nrl team to 10 points , especially as potent as that Newcastle team , without some good defensive structures in place .
But like I’ve said twice now , that game is not a North Star for us to be pointing to and saying “ that’s what we should defend like” because despite the structures working imo , like you said , we fell off 50 tackles .
But on a side note , god im sick of people on here speaking in absolutes as if they’re the Dalai Lama of nrl wisdom .
I’m right , you’re wrong , you’re an f wit because I’m the best because I played A grade in Townsville 1 year … it’s ok to have nuance and say both things can be truth at once .
You want to know why we lost that game ? It wasn’t because of shit defence , it wasn’t even because of shit attack . It was because at key times in that game we made the wrong decision and lost the moment . With either errors , erratic play , missed tackles etc .
Even the Greg marzhew try , we did all the right things defensively to cause disruption in their attack , only for guys to fail close down the space around him , covering from the inside . And because he’s a unit , he runs over his opposite number to score the winner .
We put ourselves in that position from errors in the first place .
We limit the errors out of yardage and make sure we are turning over the ball in better positions we wing that game and most games .
But that’s just my opinion , and I’m not moron , or a f wit , or a loser , or a dope because some dude from NQ, or wherever , who’s never even been to watch a game in Sydney can’t hack that someone has a differing opinion.

I love how you always present yourself to show the exact same traits as those you are desperately trying to attack. Everything you claim other people do that annoys you is a copy of the way you carry on. Its unbelieveable that you cant see that LOL.

That is true, but we're paying $1.2M for him to control us and get us into those key positions; and he didn't to close it out. Game 1 - so give him time, but that is my expectation of a player on that coin.
Think he and Galvin need to swap jumpers asap, or move API to 7, Lui needs space to exel, just my thoughts

Yes true, but we only scored 8 points in 75 minutes, that is a massive concern
Newcastle only scored 10 points with a much better team than us, I don’t think they were massively concerned apart from the drop balls

The fans frustration is that we lost. Had we have won, I can guarantee you every man and their dog would be saying “great to win the close ones… but still a lot to improve on”

I don’t shoot anyone down , with abuse because they have a different opinion . I argue my point . It’s people like you , who go straight to 💯 when people say you’re wrong . Or I disagree .
Hey man , I didn’t talk to you , and I have no interest in it . You’re seriously unwell and I don’t care what you have to say … I tried being nice , and trying to find common ground . Now that ships sailed . So I’m not going to get in a battle with you .
I’m just going to write you off !

I understand where you are coming from but I don't see it that way. Api is the the key to having Luai as our half, he will hold the attention of the A and B defender long enough for Luai to execute. I don't see us playing a left and right half as such. I think both Galvin and Luai will slide into first receiver as required, or as we saw from Galvin last week that he has the energy to sweep outside of Luai as required.

Just picture Galvin sweeping around in close and Bula a little wider with Sam F running a line at the inside shoulder of opposite number. Luia can step, play deep to Galvin and Bula to create an overlap or, if the defence focuses on Galvin play short to Sam F.

We have the clubs in the bag to cause some problems - it won't happen immediately but that is how I see it playing out as we mature.

I could be wrong - but that is sort of what I am picking up watching the way we are playing.

Yes that would have been said, but we didnt win did we? therefore the narrative changes.
Newcastle were pretty poor against us. They really threw nothing at us as a team bar a couple of their strike players going it alone. Best played the most selfish game Ive seen in a long time and it cost them a few scoring opportunities. Our goaline defence was a lot better than usual but when they applied the blow torch, we fell to pieces like craft paper. The game was there to be won and we really didnt have a proper crack at doing it. That is what annoyed a lot of us after all the talk.

I think we are expecting a bit much from Bula straight up. I hope im wrong but he hasn't played since Rnd 23 last year and had a very disruptive off season. First run of the year i'm expecting him to just do the basics
I'm really sweating on him having a blinder.

Thinking back to his debut against Manly at Cambo, he was back not long after an injury and had not been showing what you would describe as anything impressive in NSW Cup that would have suggested an immediate promotion to the top grade.

He was very impressive in his NRL debut which I think was a surprise to most people and was one of the ones that Tim Sheens actually got right.

Unfortunately another game we could have won and let slip by.

Thats not true. Most of your posts begin with 'wtf are you talking about"? or some similar wording that is immediately confrontational.
You are a hypocritical coward who blames others for your own failings.

You could dissect every game in the NRL and point at opportunities missed, for a team like us that has been complete shit house for years on end we simply don’t have the resilience to not ice our opportunities. Although I will agree I was impressed with our goal line D for the first time in years

That being said, with better polish both teams could have easily scored another 2-3 tries .. yes us included. It definitely didn’t feel like a 10-8 game to me

Bula has speed.

That alone will create many more opportunities, even if he is a little under done
