Royce back

Watch manly attack with their defense goose

What happens to that ''system'' when players are struggling, fatigues, under pressure….what happens when only ONE players doesnt cover - thru exhaustion or inexperience - and lets down the team.....what happens when the line is broken and the D is shot? what do they call on then?

You call on each other, your team mate, you not letting HIM down

What you talk of is what is initially put in play....it doesnt simply always work that way though

Attitude and effort is important if you don't have it you lose.

however it is irrelevant if your system is not effective.

I reckon attitude is the final 10 or 20% not the major factor that the old cliche indicates

Yep, but like everything with us….we DO see it
Occasionally
We are effective - occasionally....so that tells me our technigue/system is fine -occasionally
Like everything thing else with us...its inconsistent
Melb are consistent

I am glad the subject has turned away from the "Royce's attack" or should I say defense? :roll wish him all the best… the coach is there and he'll know what to do.

Give Royce a break... attack or defend (pun intended) him at the end of the season.

defence is 80% about one word and it begins with A. The problem every team has is getting the A in defence 80% of the time. If you look back on 80% of WT crunch games the biggest single factor in winning was defence. They always turned up with the right A and won. Can you guess what A is?

Also try H for honesty
D for discipline
W for wholehearted

WT were found wanting in these areas in 2012 - one match I vividly remember was the lat round match against the roosters when WT had to win the match but the defence crumbled well and truly at the start and the game was lost in the first 15 minutes. I don't think Royce was the defence coach for that match.

I wouldnt use that game as any example Newtown, the players had only hours earlier learnt of Robbies mums passing

I think Newtown's talking about the second last game of the season when we played against the Roosters, Ink, not the earlier one where they had only just heard of Sonia's passing.

Ha ha … We play so badly against the Chooks so often it's hard to keep up.
Over to you Braith.

Yep, lowest point in a very low season.

Not so harsh when you deal with facts, but don't let them get in the way… :crazy

except we are not dealing in facts, we are dealing in opinions

When talking of Royce's coaching record, we are dealing with facts.

Checkmate

What a load of rubbish.

the comment "royce as a coach is a failure" is completely subjective.

A fact would be Royce simmons win ratio is x%
or Royce has twice (or whatever the number is) been sacked as head coach
and alike these can be drawn to form an opinion (informed) that Royce simmons is a failure.

on the other side of the coin

one could use facts such as
Royce was credited by John Lang as building the squad that won the 2003 premiership
Royce was the defence/assistant coach of the 2005 premiership
Coached 187 games at NRL far more than almost all assistants plus head coach experience in the UK in 3 separate stints.

to form the contrary opinion.

Im not saying that Royce is a great coach and I think he is a poor head coach, I think he is ok as an assistant, but would prefer others.

I do however object to people quashing others opinions by declaring there own opinions as facts, which is exactly what happened here.

Royce is a failure is an opinion not a fact.

Do you have any evidence of this?

@Goose said:

True. However our defense was far from great that season either, even if we did win the comp.

Royce was also our defence/assistant coach in 2006-2009.

I don't see how this coaching experience is relevant. His record at Penrith was awful, only making the finals twice in seven seasons and with a win percentage of 41%. Also won a wooden spoon.

In England, he was sacked from St Helens in his second season.

Royce is a failure is an opinion not a fact.

I was specifically speaking of facts, such as his win percentage, wooden spoon with Penrith etc. These are facts are they not?

The match I am referring to is the 2nd encounter played at Allianz Stadium. Most of the WT players did not seem to have much attitude at all and it coincided with the rumoured departure of Heighnington and Ryan. Although it waas not publicised at the time it happened to be Sheens last match as WT coach. The attitude and effort displayed by the team was to say the least very unprofessional. I paid good money to see this match and was looking forward to it as a win would have guaranteed a semi spot for WT. The only determination shown by the team was that they would play with only 50% of normal enthusiasm. If only I knew beforehand. Not a good look for supporters. Not a good look for the club.

Keeping Simmons is a backward step. Whatever he did 7 years ago..he did 7 years ago… He tried his hand as Head Coach at Super League and I dont think that was a success. I dont think he was swamped with offers when he returned
home except Sheens...come back to the boys club and earn some comfortable money.

This man has done his time with us..it should be...close the door on your way out.

total clean out is what is needed , leeds , skando time to move on , if your any good you will get a job , Potter bring in the new team and turn our team around
