OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

Twals a Plodder? - Glad you're finally coming around old mate....

Not to have a shot at you bud, But there's not much reality around these parts....
I've seen post after post stating how Hunt is going to come here,
Double His minutes, Increase his fitness, Gonna be some sort of revolution and Now we need to fix his attitude?

The reality of the situation is - Royce Hunt is 30, played Footy his whole life and hasn't played 100 games - Most blokes his age are looking at 200+
He's Been in the Dogs, Raiders, Sharks and now to Us....
How many changes does a bloke need to kick into gear?

I'm a fan of the way he plays
- But he does a very simple job, In a very short time at the Sharks.
Anyone thinking he's an upgrade on what we've lost is blinded by the hatred of the way it's all panned out.
I'm not against Hunt, But if we're playing him, a utility (Bird - Who I'm hoping goes to Lock), A back hooker (Tallyn) and 1 other on the bench next year
- they may as well give us the Spoon now.
Hunt just doesn't, And probably never will have enough minutes in him...
He's not going from a top 4 team to the wooden spooners with a culture as poor as ours and going to somehow get to $1.10-20
I like Twal.

I meant we've got that position covered with Twal and Klem, don't need another aging prop that has only just turned up cos he needs a new club.

Rather a different approach

Just turned up?
You said yourself he's had a great year....

Year before last he was in the GF - That generally doesn't happen with crap players and
before that he was playing Origin and for the Kangaroos....
Combine what Klemmer and Twal have done in the last 5 years and you won't get close to that.

Here's an idea, Sign RCG - Loose Twal and Klemmer....
You'll get more output for less money.

I'm not falling for the hype.

Surprised Newy hasn't thrown their hat in the ring, his Mrs is from around here... owns a business around here too.

RCG has already thanks but no thanks the Tigers so it's not even an option rly

Random fact,

He's Karmichael Hunts cousin.
Oh Demps you are gold.

I totally missed the "random fact" Hey Hunt is linked with Karmichael Hunt and... Lazy at training 😉

The question is what will motivate him now?
Hard training , people pushing him at the Gym
OR
Fun training, i.e. enjoy footy again and love the contact

We know Craig F trains them hard.

😂😂

I hope he looks over and sees Samuela & Fonua ripping in at training and it inspires him.

Benji needs to step the training up across the club, we are way off the likes of Penrith and Storm.

Notice how many coaches are hired from being hard trainers...

Flanagan (I believe)
Ryles
Craig F.
Cameron Ciraldo

Benji has a completely opposite attitude. He has learned the right attitude for inspiring a halfback or star, not a team.

That's why the new assistant coach is so important and needs to be from that ilk.

I don't wanna see them smiling at training and wearing gold chains and ear rings.
Wanna see em working hard and becoming weapons.

I'm on record as having reservations about Hunt. As has been covered- he's definitely more of an impact forward than a replacement for Utoikamanu.

My real issue is that the Tigers already had 2 of those guys on the bench- Pole & Sione Fainu. You can't have 3 guys on the bench offering the same type of game- we become too predictable.

If Bateman is coming back, 2-3 players need to be decided on what their roles are- Bird is a #13, a #3 or a bench player? Kobe Hetherington? Needed if Bird is a #13? Seyfarth- was pretty good as a second rower. Where does he fit with Bateman back? #13? Bench?

While we need more good players added, I'd almost argue we have 2 too many forwards to give them all game time. And getting yet another prop to replace Utoikamanu seems overkill now.

The real solution has to come from within. Either Pole or Sione Fainu needs to take the role Utoikamanu played. That involves either greater minutes (Sione Fainu) or more consistant defence (Pole). But either of these 2 taking on the #8 spot allows Hunt & whichever misses out on the starting spot (Pole/Fainu) to play off the bench. Even then- we still might be 2 forwards too many if we add Hetherington. Seyfarth, Twal, Da Silva, Latu Fainu & then Bird (depending on if he plays centre or not) fitting into 2 bench spots?

What Benji plans to do with his forwards & bench is really interesting to me. For mine- either Bird or Latu Fainu needs to go to centre (unless To'o or JAC actually come on board...in which case we might have an abundance of riches). This would allow Benji to play one more of the clubs better players each week. We are not a strong enough club to have guys like Latu Fainu in reserve grade. If he's in the best 17 players- get him on the field.

What we don't have, still, is an onfield enforcer. Very concerned that we will continue to get run over, unless we can bring in someone at #13 that can dictate games with their physicality.

He does what he does decent enough and can certainly have an impact.
We just need more than that going into next year is all...
he will be let go in the second year for not being fit enough -- like Schuster.

He's going to balloon at the Tigers

Fitzy is a fitness freak and Hunt still cant stay on the field long - and he was playing for a contract.

Next yr he gets a nice 3 yr deal at the cushy tigers and he's another year older - hes only going to get worse.

Anyone that thinks otherwise is falling back into the same trap "hope and wishful thinking"... like they did with all the other players we signed that just "needed a change of scenery and will improve" lol.

He'll be another BJ Leilua....

From a ridiculous person
lol you think packer and matulino were good purchasers?

Hunt is coming to us with less of a resume' than those guys were.

what makes you think he will go ok here?

He's coming from a better coach at the sharks, a better team, a better system, he's only going to get older -- and he's with us for 3 years -- and he plays on average 20 mins.

Tell me please because you're obviously smarter than i am

@just old magpie - enlighten me too.

Fringe first grader who was ready to retire. We've offered him 3 years.

Excellent.
i know. bloody hell people on this forum have either short memories or rose colored glasses.

Anyone that comes to us who has a checkered background is going to be different at our club because "they just need a change" -- and look at the history -- mbye, reynolds, packer, matulino, jimmy the jet, BJ Leilua, klemmer on a 4 yr deal when the Knights didnt want him, Sullivan on a 4 year deal when the dragons didnt want him, Bateman on a 4 year deal when no other club was going to pay the freight we were, Adam Douehi on a 4 year deal when the rabbits didnt want him and the Roosters only offered him 2 years, Olam when the storm didnt want him because of his knees, Chris Mcqueen when he was injured we signed for 3 years, extending Naden for 3 years when we didnt need to.... the list could go on and on....

and now Royce Hunt -- the guy who will go better at the tigers -- we sign for 3 years when NO OTHER CLUB offered him that deal. And somehow he is not a bad signing for us?

everyone saying BUT its not for the same money -- who cares $400-$500K on your cap for 3 years is a lot -- especially for a player that has a very high probablity of going backwards and already has a low base to start from.

Not to have a shot at you, but he only really started playing league more than a handful of times a year when he moved back at 15.
There was literally an article last week about it. He obviously wasn’t playing his whole life. Are we also counting clubs like the Dogs where he played as a kid? Because I’ve played for about 10 clubs then.
Like myself
Played for more clubs than Slim Dusty.

I've got 0 hopes of this signing making any difference. If I don't notice him this year, he'd have exceeded my expectations.

I hate having poor older players at the club.

We have purchased Hunt knowing his best football is in 15-20 minute runs , so expect to see the same for us next year.
I know he will be harder for opposition players to tackle 1 on 1 than any of the other middle forwards we have on the books at the moment.

he's not signed to be Payne Haas. Even Richo has said, we'll get 2 middles to make up for the loss of Stefano. He provides ...

1 Aggression ... which we lack in spades!
2 Impact ... which we lack in spades!
3 Size ... which we lack in spades!
4 Experience ... which we do need!
5 Solid defence in contact ... which we lack in spades!
6 Winning attitude ... which we need more of!
7 Eagerness to mentor our young middles ... which we need!

He may not look the fittest guy on the planet but I'm sure he'll be trying his hardest to get his level up to being up to produce 1 x 20-min stint in 1st half & 1 x 15-min stint in 2nd half.

I can't fathom some of the comments on here saying he'll be terrible without actually looking at where our weaknesses are, what he CAN deliver & giving him a chance to work on his fitness!

And we'll probably sign another middle who is a high energy, fit defensive beast making up for any of his shortcomings.

He's on the decline. You said yourself, "year before last...before that, etc" He will be Klemmer 2.0. Can we please target players entering their prime or still playing rep footy??
