no news here yet??
maybe he was going to anounce it, yet it was overshadowed by the results of the storm salary cap investigationn.

Hopefully he gets his visa sorted.

Wests Tigers assistant coach Royce Simmons is edging closer to being announced as the new head coach of St Helens, with minor visa issues all that stand between his getting the green light. It is understood Simmons and the club have agreed to terms and once visa details are ironed out his appointment will be finalised.

22/07/2010 9:03:41 PM
St Helens Rugby League Club has appointed current Australian and Wests Tigers Assistant Coach Royce Simmons as their Head Coach next season on a two-year contract.

"Royce will bring vast experience to the Saints. He is used to successfully coaching elite players and developing young talent alike,’’ said St Helens Chairman Eamonn McManus.

“Having worked directly with Australian national coach Tim Sheens for the last 8 years, he is more than well equipped to ensure that Saints compete and succeed at the highest level."

Simmons said it was a huge honour and a challenge he was ready for.

“St Helens are one of the great historic names in world rugby league and are at the crossroads for a great future as they move to a new stadium with a squad that has a great balance and blend of proven internationals and some of the brightest young prospects in the game,’’ Simmons said.

“I'm fully aware of their record of achievement and the style of rugby league which has so distinguished them over the years. I'm really looking forward to taking up the role and moving to England."

Wests Tigers and Australian coach Tim Sheens said Simmons would do a great job.

“Although sad to lose Royce, I'm extremely happy for him. He's now absolutely ready to succeed in coaching a club of the standing of StHelens,’’ Sheens said.

“He's more than aware of what it takes and has all the attributes and attitude to succeed at the highest level."

Good luck to Royce, hopefully it proves to be a good change for the Tigers too.

Congrats Royce - will be interesting to see who Sheens appoints as assistant - could also mean assistant Aussie coach - looks good on any resume.

Congrats - No we can look at some fresh Ideas or will Peter Gentile be our only assistant coach?

Maybe Folkesy and Gentle will be the 2 Assistant Coaches with Cherry Mescia coming back?
