Royce Simmons [Discussion]

Any other club and he would never have survived past 09, but our spineless board likes to reward mediocrity

Seriously there is no way Humphreys can allow this to happen. Royce was useless when he was here last time and would be no better now. If we miss the 8 it should be academic anyway as the board will surely have to sack Sheens.

I'm guessing your new here. Sheens will never be moved along no matter what, surely 06-09 proved that

The way things are going Sheensy will still be coaching here when he gets his telegram from the Queen! …I mean King, by then

Don't think ill bother with membership next season if Royce waltzes back in. Will still go to games and follow the side however this is a pathetic move. The bloke was a rubbish first grade coach at penrith, a rubbish defensive coach for 7 years here, and a total flop at st helens. Sheens says he could out coach them all though. 2 years with Folkes, two top 4 finishes now back to the job for the boys mentality.

Just when you think things cant get any worse ,i shudder to think what the junta of sheens georgalis and simmons would bring to the club.

I thought the 3 stooges had left this world sadly it looks like they may be here next year

This is absolutely ridiculous and a dead set joke.

Royce Simmons has been an absolute failure as any sort of coach in rugby league.

He coached Penrith for seven seasons, only making the finals twice and winning a wooden spoon. In seven years he had a 41% win record with the Panthers.

He was sacked from St Helens in just his second season for poor performances.

Can someone give me even a single logical reason why this is a good move? Why people shouldn't be peeved off? This is nothing more than jobs for the boys. It is sickening.

What I found interesting was Royce's words at the start of his second season at St Helens (just before he was sacked).

“They expect to win. They do not accept not winning."

“I'd better hold a bit of silverware up this year or I'll be on the plane. That's how things are."

You've got to be a winner or you don't exist too long. And that's good.”

That's OK mate, you're a failure but there's a job here for you when you get back after failing. They accept not winning at Camp Concord, unlike St Helens. Who cares if you can't coach, you're one of the boys so let's bring you back.

The moment that captured Royce for me was at the SCG, ground bathed in sunshine and him setting up the witches hats in a rain poncho

An assistant is there to do as told.

I like to bag Royce but the word when he left was that he stopped Sheens from making some of the more radical ideas he had become reality. IMHO Royce will never be a head coach of any note but he can be effective if given the right role and he does get along with the players and is an actual character which can be of real use.

Am I jumping for joy? No. But it is about implementing the systems Mick Potter wants and if he is appointed he has the opportunity to prove he is the man for the job. If he doesn't he can be moved on

We might be surprised and royce may have learnt some new tricks whilst away.
As smeg said, he's there to do as he is told and his input will be limited to whatever extent potter allows.

If I were to speculate I think Grant Jones may take on a role as Todds assistant in the NYC next season

he is no where near as bad as you guys make out. He is also very likable and that is a good chjaracteristic in an assistant, they can often play good cop after the coach makes a tough decision.

I dont think he is an awesome coach, but think as an assistant he is very servicable.

Like most aspects with the team over the off season and even into nextyear there is going to be a lot of "wait and see" as to how players and staff perform under a new head coach.

Ive never heard the, players say anything bad about him, or any negative press other then what the fans toss up on here. Give the guy a break
