The Crushers beat the Magpies in their last ever game in the ARL and stopped us making the finals

Was a very tough player. Would do anything to get over the top of his opponent, mainly illegal things.(from the Western Suburbs Magpies f/b page)
Vale Mick Alchin - Magpie #644
We are saddened to learn of the passing of 1968-71 Magpie Mick Alchin
Mick, played 52 games for us from 1968 to 71, including 45 First Grade appearances, mainly on the Wing.
Mick knew how to find the line, crossing for 20 tries, but just as importantly, not too many of his opponents, would have any chance of scoring given Mick's uncompromising and sometimes brutal defence.
An absolute crowd pleaser at Lidcombe Oval, Mick was as tough as they came.
Mick finished his career playing 19 games with Eastern Suburbs in 1972 and 1973.
After retiring as a player, Mick had a successful coaching career in Sydney and Newcastle, highlighted by his appointment as an Assistant to Arthur Beetson when he was Qld Origin Coach in the early 80's.
