My favourite was Ellery Hanley man when he hit the scene for the Tigers he lit LO up good pace and very elusive.

Also when he was in the England side they were a good team gave the roos a run for their money.

I don’t think it’s the quality as much as the whole philosophy of the game has changed. Ball control, defence and attacking brilliance have always been cornerstones of the game. Kicking has been around a while, but never as important as now.
To win these days, you strategically kick your opponent to death and you hold the line in defence. When they inevitably make an error, you pounce and capitalise. Pretty boring, dry stuff.
As for quality….As much as I love the way the game was played in the 80’s and 90’s, today’s average player is streets ahead in terms of knowledge, endurance, athleticism and skill.
