Rule/Interpretation Changes for 2014

Increase the 40-20 to a forty metre kick from anywhere being possession back (ie 10-50 , 20-60,30-70 ,40-80 ,50-90) would really open the game up as wingers would have to be hanging back slightly just in case

x2

Also, re: extra time, 1 point to each team, than 1 extra point for golden try.

i say stop the clock only after a score and restart it from kickoff.

i hate the stupid rule that if the player who regathers the ball after it has gone dead runs it back to the restart he can tap immediately. i think it is really dumb and touch footy like, and anyway, when has it ever even worked?!

i also think the restart from a ball kicked dead should be from the 30m line.

**i cant stand when a winger or smaller player is dragged over the touch line from way inside the field. in this instance, once the player is tackled he is held**.

I agree this has to be removed. Id change the rule to be something like: If a player goes into touch as a result of a tackle then it is simply a tackle and the player goes 5m in field to play the ball from where they went out.

But if the player is attacking inside the 20m of the opposition and goes into touch then it is hand over as it is now.

So you take a winger into touch who is running it out from deep inside their own half and it is just a tackle (albeit a dominate one for the defense). But if the winger is attacking the tryline inside the 20m of the opposition half and goes into touch then it is a hand over as is now.

It would also give teams and incentive to develop a nice passing game and attack the edges in the midfield area rather than monotonous 1 out running to get into bomb territory.

I've read through this whole thread, discussed with others and i've tried to cherry pick the most important rules changes I think the game needs to thrive in 2014:

–-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Less interchanges, at least 8 if not 6\. The implementation of a ‘free interchange’ if a serious injury occurs is a possibility. The player cannot come back on in the game under any circumstances and abuse will result in hefty fines.

-Removal of any point in golden point resulting in a stoppage of play. All 10 minutes must be played.

-Removal of 40-20 to ANY 40 metres kick would open up the game as wingers have to be back slightly in case.

-Removal of double movements, if the player can place the ball down it is a try (must be before the held call)

-Removal of the wrestle, more free flowing game required.

-Bring back shoulder charge, lighter penalties on the ‘biff’. So, sin bins and send offs are possible and not uncommon but not compulsory in a fight.

-Sinbin means the player can come back after 10 minutes or if two tries are scored by the opposing team, whichever comes first.

-Time off after a try until ball is kicked off again

-Sort out 2nd tier salary cap.

-Accountability within the referees.

-A more consistent call of tackle. If the ball carrying movement has stopped then ref counts to 3 (time can be changed to optimise results) and then the ball carrier plays the ball. Backwards movement should be allowed until stopped.

-Captain’s Challenge against a ref call so it goes to video ref automatically. 1 wrong one per game per team.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, what would be the best way to get our voices heard? I think the drop in crowds and viewers has sent a strong message but we also need to get the appropriate action enacted. Getting personalities and high profile people like those from Ch 9 and other ex-players or current players would definitely help because I really fear for the game in the future if something isn't done soon, more and more are turning away from the sport in favour of soccer and afl unfortunately.
