Rule/Interpretation Changes for 2014

Two rules that I would like to see implemented in 2014.

1\. penalty for any intentional turning a player around to their own goal line ie. tackle completed and player grabs leg and turn tackled player around to face own goal line (probably a Melb initiated ploy that has been increasingly coached into the game)
2\. players moving off the mark. Puts the markers offside and illegally provides an advantage to the offensive team

Stop the stoppages… Compare challenge cup final to nrl.. Great flowing contest. Quick video ref..

id like to see the tap and run if there is no markers at the play the ball.
2.time off after scoring a try until conversion attempt is completed
3.ball stripping allowed

Stop the clock! As soon as the ball is out of play the clock should stop. From the time a try is scored til the ball is kicked off, from the time the ball goes into touch til the scrum is fed. There is so much unnecessary time wasting.

Just bring the bloody shoulder charge back.

Also like the stop the cock rule when there's a break in play.

Are you referring to Sam Burgess GNR are the clock

Would like to see the second tier salary cap sorted out

I'd like to see the refs a little big fitter and allowing the quick tap play. Seen it only a couple of times. Sometimes you see players ready to take the tap and the ref is like wait for my whistle.
I'd like to see a rule in place for that because obviously you cannot have a quick tap like 2 metres out.
Maybe they have to verbally say we are taking the tap, before sprinting into position so the red can say "he is running" similar to the 20m tap.

I'd like to see accountability introduced amongst the refs. Whether that's in the form of a press conference or some other format. They aren't 15 year old kids giving up their Saturday mornings to referee, they're paid professionals who need to be treated like that. Not the protected species that they are. I don't believe the standard or interpretations of the referees will improve whilst Russell Smith is coaching them. Honestly whoever put that bloke in charge deserves to be punted twice.

I like the idea of stopping the clock.
A good 5-10 minutes each game is wasted time. Doesn't sound like much but it's easily opportunity for 2-3 tries.

Bring back 50/50 scrums

Bring back the biff

Introduce a 5 minute sin bin. I read a stat the other day showing the huge reduction in sin binnings in the last 10 years. In the current game, 10 minutes is too long to sit someone down and for a lot of incidents, the Luke O'Donnell cartwheel for a perfect example, a penalty is simply not a big enough advantage for the other team.

Walking off the mark, or taking a big one or two steps forward/left or forward/to the right really gives me the irrits,
Its usually on the back of a player half getting thru the line and getting a quik ptb, this ensure the dummy half is moving forward when he picks it up and his recievers are as well

The markers are rendered useless….I hate it, and wish refs would clamp down on it more

Ruck fixes
1) A more consistent call of tackle. If the ball carrying movement has become hindered then ref counts to 3 (time can be changed to optimise results) and then the ball carrier plays the ball. Potentially coupled with a 8m offside rather than 10m.
That would make what constitutes a tackle more consistent. It will also ensure the physicality is based upon initial and immediately subsequent impact rather than wrestling about. It would speed up the game a fair bit too. Hindered movement would be when progress of the player has been reduced to a walking pace or below.

It would have to be trialled etc but it would clean up a lot of subjectivity in the ruck and remove the wrestle and put the emphasis back upon what men do on their feet rather than on the ground.

Others
1) Mark in goal by the defence is extended to the 20m line. Players will get an incentive to try to defuse the bombs.
2) Going into touch in your own half is only a tackle. Promotes attacking football from distance but granting greater width for attacking within own half.
3) Multiple man tackles can strip the ball if the ball carrier is attempting to promote the ball. From a practical ref view point ball can be punched out, but not grabbed out.

Point 2 promotes attacking football, point 3 hinders it as players wont push for an offload/second phase play

I agree with most of the previous posts. My interpretation of them is that they basically just want more game time and existing rules enforced by taking back control of our game from the coaches and the Cameron Smith's and Jamie Lyon's of our game that are currently running the show.

Particularly agree with Demonborger's time limit for clearing the tackle. I think it could also give some reward for a relic of the modern game, the low/around the legs tackle. Furthermore, it should assist in keeping the smaller and skilled players in our game.

Two less interchanges per match would also assist in providing a better balance between skill and athleticism, without breaking the duty of care to this cotton wool era players.

Finally, I would like the only thing that I did not hate about the Super League era to be implemented right through the grades. That being that the scorer kicks off. Now more than ever, momentum is king, and I hate watching games when a team (even if it is our opposition) does not see the ball for long periods. It is horrendous in mismatched junior games when a team is demoralised by standing in the in-goal and kicking off all match.

I feel Ray Thompson may disagree with you on this one!

The Knights player didnt shoulder charge though, he was bracing for impact

Just a terrible accident, one of those things that occur in football

Just off the top of my head I'd like to see the return of contested scrums and play the balls as well as getting rid of the stupid stripping rule (how you can benefit from poor ball security is beyond me).
