*Rumor* big announcement regarding Jarryd Hayne imminent

NRL simply doesn't cater for the more creative athletes, with the wrestle dominating. It's easy to see how they'd reach their limit of growth potential in the game's current form.
God knows it's boring to watch all too often these days unfortunately; that is, unless the Tigers are playing in which case, personally, I'm hooked up to all my life support technology white knuckling it all the way..,

They make 1 play then have a break could you see 160kg blokes making 20-30-40 tackles? I mean if there such great althletes geez they stop a lot You underestimate our Rugby League players . I've never been caught up in this hyped up game typical overrated yank crap . But I do wish Hayne all the best he's a freak so fast & fit. Only thing I'm worried about is it will take him too long to learn the game.

Mate, watch some footage of Desean Jackson, then get back to me and tell me how many league players could do the kind of stuff he can.

I've lived in America and I can tell you now, NFL football is such a pussy sport compared to league. They consider league "UFC with a ball" and they think it's absolutely absurd that we play without any sort of pads on.

I've had conversations on other forums with Americans about this. They wear pads cos they're bigger humans and the collisions have more impact.

The padding almost becomes a weapon

Decided in an rugby league off season to give grid iron a go for the Kenmore Centurions many years ago

It was different but you played offence and defence which made it more entertaining

Hayne's size or speed won't be the issue. Desean Jackson is explosive, but he's roughly the same size as Mitchell Moses! It's the intricacies of learning a highly technical game that will be the problem for Hayne.

Just a sneaky ploy to get out of the pains of preseason training, he will turn up at Parra training five days before round one, dressed in a Hawian shirt with a very good sun tan, looking unfit and relaxed!!!!!!!

Desean Jackson is small compared to Hayne - you keep talking about 100 kgs heavier - the only guys that heavy are defensive tackles and they don't do much hitting mainly blocking. Hayne's height and weight are about the same as the average wide receiver or safety and slightly lighter than a linebacker.

One of the more amusing things I find about us league fans is we spend all our time whinging about everything that is wrong with the came, but at the same time declare it the the greatest game of all….

As a rule we bag other sports as being rubbish.

NFL athletes are amazing, Jarryd hayne is also an amazing athlete, he tested very well and IMO has the athletic ability to make it. The real challenge in my mind is that AMerican football like all sports has its own set of intricacies that you only learn playing, he will struggle in that regard.

Ive heard that they think he may make a good punt returner.

Any one who thinks wearing the padding makes the American football players soft is kidding themselves, the padding is a double edge sword, allows the players to thump each other harder.

I played rugby against the US team, many of which were failed college players, they were so physical and belted the christ out od us, they didnt have the smarts and we got them, but it was one of the hardest games of my life (interestingly the Japanese were the same, so committed they belted the crap out of us)

As others have said, no use getting into a pissing contest over which is the tougher sport, its a pretty subjective opinion. But to say the game is soft cos they wear helmets and pads is garbage.

I wouldn't want that big unit from Brissie who is playing over there (Jessie Williams I think?) running at me, pads or no pads.

Jarryd Hayne’s ‘dream’ move to the Seattle Seahawks has taken a massive hit after it was revealed that coach Pete Carroll was joking when he told a media conference that the club’s talent scouts had been following the fullback “for some time now”. Despite admitting that he was aware of Hayne during a press conference this morning (AEDT), Wide World of Sports can confirm that Carroll has no idea who the NRL superstar is. The revelations poured cold water on the hype the 26-year-old was on the verge of signing for the defending Super Bowl champions. The revelations also typifies the lack of knowledge of the fullback within NFL circles

Balmain great Paul Sironen once tried his hand at American football and has warned Hayne that his NFL dream could quickly sour because of the lack of freedom the game's one-dimensional roles will afford him.
Sironen was given a scholarship by the University of Hawaii in 1984, but quickly became frustrated at the sport’s ultra-specific roles and returned to Australia after a year to launch his rugby league career. The former Kangaroos and Origin great warned that Hayne faced a herculean task to conquer NFL and may find the game too mundane. "I wouldn’t put anything past Jarryd and I dearly hope he makes it, but he will get a shock at the level of talent over there," Sironen told The Daily Telegraph.

"He is going to miss the NRL because in rugby league, Jarryd gets his hands on the ball regularly. "Our game is so great because you can excel in many facets. The risk for Jarryd is that he can be bored by being stuck in one box, in the NFL he will be required in one discipline and that’s not making the most of his talent. "If he ends up succeeding, good luck to him, but he will be a little fish in a massive pond."

I think Hayne will need more mental toughness than physical toughness…but who knows he may adapt to the game reasonably well,he is an athlete and wants to test himself..good luck to him....

I listened to an interesting podcast this year, about whether padding and helmets in American Football potentially makes it more dangerous, rather than safer, because players instinctively have less fear / self-preservation.

They compared it to driving a car, where people who feared the potential of an accident (e.g. driving in dark, dangerous weather conditions etc.) are statistically more careful and therefore have less accidents.

The conclusion was that padding and helmets can lower incidence of certain types of injuries, but increase the chance of serious impact damage.

Lol sorry but that is hilarious. I love how the media appear to have little knowledge of how the NFL works. You don't just sign with a team and walk straight on to the field, especially a guy whose never played the game, and especially not for the freaking reigning SB champs. To say he's a little fish in a big pond over there is an understatement. The guy is going to be a fingerling in the ocean. To put it bluntly he's going to be a nobody. I don't mean to sound like i'm knocking him, even though i don't like him, what he's doing takes guts, but he's been badly advised if he is under the assumption that the SB champs would fall over themselves to sign somebody whose never played the game before.

Hayne's first American interview

http://rugbyleagueweek.com.au/hayne-conducts-interview/

The guys interviewing him come off extremely arrogant, and don't seem to be taking him at all seriously. The interviewer doesn't even know the difference between Rugby and Rugby League, and his pronunciation of ''Parramatta Eels'' is just downright embarrassing.

Though it has to be said, why should they take him seriously? I agree its shoddy research work to not even familiarize yourself with the game the guy your interviewing plays, but from them seeing him as a potential NFL player, why should they take him seriously?
