I dont think it is unfair Sirro. Until someone comes up with a legitimate alternative that is not contracted to another club I will treat such arguments with disdain.
On about 25 occasions I have asked people to provide alternative and the best I get is Brian Smith - I would rather Tommy as coach.
I dont particularly want to get into a Sheens thing as im a little on the fence at the moment. I believe he shouldnt be here in 2010, but he is, so as far as im concerned, he's got another chance and i hope he takes it. But so many arguments in support of him i find very poor. U say u want a legit alternative, but the fact is when changing coaches its always a gamble. Even proven coaches going to knew clubs is a gamble. But in reality, is it really a gamble when your club has been failing? The worst it can do is fail again.
If we keep finishing 9th but no legit candidate is out there to replace Sheens, do u want him here the next 5 years? Surely there comes a time when a risk needs to be taken, whether its on a young coach like Potter, Kearney, Flanagan or a proven coach like Folkes, Waite and even Brown.
Ive stayed out of the Sheens arguments all off season, but lately the support brigade have carried on with pathetic arguments. No offence, but lets balance it out a little. Im happy to acknowledge what he's done for the club. We are all forever in debt to the guy for the way he turned the club around, but how long can he live on what he did 5 years ago?
Every coach, no matter how good has a use by date at a club.
The funny thing Sirro is that I dont consider myself a Sheens supporter. Like you I agree that it needs to be assessed on a year to year basis. Part of the reason I passionately defend him is to "balance" the attacks by others.
