Russell Packer

Last nights effort was what I spoke about earlier this season. I said we need an aggressive forward leader and packer could be that player. With the rule changes and then his effort a few weeks ago I feared he was never going to be that man.
Last night he proved he could do it and despite the horror show that is the broncos, he did it against a decent forward pack.
I honestly believe Packer, Twal, Aloiai, eisenhuth, can lay a platform for us next week and get over the eels pack

Was good last night played well. Was definitely better than McQueen.

I’d say McQueen will be making way when Twal is back next week. Probably Eiso to the bench but hope he can still play decent minutes

Definitely Twal for McQueen. Eiso had a very good game as well.

Mikaele was very good last night. The Bronco forwards had difficulty pulling him down.

Forgot to list him - I agree he’s very good

Next game is Packer's chance at redemption. His darkest day on the field, Easter Monday last year, was against Parramatta. I haven't forgotten how he pretended to tackle Reed Mahoney cause he was too tired.

Something that was mentioned on NRL 360 few nights back ..... great Jack Gibson approach was that teams must have 5-6 hardened experienced players in their starting squads before they can consider premiership aspirations.
With Packer I can count about six when you include Benji, Chris, Josh, Mbye and Joseph. Not counting Taylor or McQueen. I suppose you can include Nofa in that group also.

Add to that Aloiai, LL and Twal are some of the best young forwards in the game. May be a tad biased but I think Aloiai is a Smokey for prop of the year

Lots of knockers on the forum about the big fella....
Finally fit he dished out a big slice of get that up ya,,, well done Russ Packer
Throw Rowdy in the mix too sometimes the old are better than the new

and if you add the trilogy of players i thought needed to be punted in eiso and its amazing how well they have done so far

What a difference a week makes..last week these blokes were useless slow fat plodders..lol

I think we have played pretty good for the last month. It was an undisciplined performance last week but we still competed. The team is exceeding my expectations this year so far not so much in wins and losses but performance wise. Maguire has to be given some credit for that. Great to see Packer playing well and looking happy.

Packer, Aloiai and twal pretty strong starting middle with Mikaela and Eisenhuth on the bench 👍👍👍 And with twal and eisenhuth able to play long minutes it allows us to play a utility + a backrower without giving much away in the middle too

I said before the game Packer would do well
I eqs suprised with Ealters i was as confident in him performing as good as he did he was great

The renaissance of Russel Packer is as good as a quality mid-season signing. All of a sudden our forward stocks appear considerably strengthened.

Has a genuine presence that the Broncos were very aware of last nite
Will be baited by the eels, and needs to resist temptation

Hate to say it but offered a lot more than Clark at prop

You would expect an International prop to do that over a 23 year old that has played only 14 games (even less starting).

Not sure just how impatient you are Josh.

Obviously expect a SOO performance from these young guys first up.

He really stood up and led from the front with Aloiai. Surprised pretty much all of us and hopefully he can continue last night's form into next week - we'll need it.

Like many have said, the opposition was poor and so our pack might have been flat track bullies but the intent and energy was great. Really impressed and pleased for him. Russell also looked fit given his lack of footy. As some have said, we look a different side (on paper at least) with Russell up front to help Josh. Looking forward to seeing the real rest against Paulo/RCG.
