Ryan Matterson

He's a big, ball playing second rower, who's good in defence and has good footwork. He is also coming from a winning culture.

He will be one of our better signings in the last 3 or 4 years.

Unlike some others on this forum you know a good footballer. This kid ticks plenty of boxes, he will be very good for us. Now for a really good middle forward and a back with size and speed to burn

Bugger that, let's just keep signing the Rochows and MCK's of the world.

Very happy with the (potential) signing of Matterson. Quality player imo.

haven't seen much of him but seems to be of the curtis sironen, shaun lane type person who played pretty good as juniors but haven't had much impact in first grade yet

freddie rates him pretty highly i'm sure

Freddy picked him for City after 2 first grade games. Now I know pretty much anyone got a City jersey but Freddys been quoted saying he thinks Matterson can play for Australia.

This is exactly the type of player we should be signing:

* Juniour Rep
* Big Body (193cm, 107kgs)
* From a Power Club (comes from a professional system and winning culture)
* 56 first grade games (not an unproven rookie)
* 23 years old (about to enter the prime of his career)

Lets be serious, unless be offer him about $500k above his value we arent getting TPJ. Guys like him WON'T come to a club like Wests until we're a regular semi final club. Players like Matterson WILL make us that club.

According to the moles report we beat out - souths, eels, sharks and raiders for Matterson.

Good Post. Matterson, MCK, Lawrence provides good edge back row rotation. We were very weak at the position.

MCK is a weapon when used off the bench so it improves our pack and bench. Also allows Cleary more cover at 5/8 Benji won’t last the year and Reynolds hasn’t completed a season in 2 years. We could also use him at 5/8 against teams like the Raiders where we are undersized up front.

I like this signing but I can’t believe how quickly we have all dropped off Garner. From what I saw Garner has first grade stamped all over him

why have we dropped off him, he will get better next year and will push every one else for a spot in the 17, he will be a very good player for us. but we also have to sign more size and experienced players for him to improve.

Just reading Lawrence, Matterson and MCK as our options and no mention of Garner. But don’t get me wrong - I’ve slammed our history of recruitment but this is a great signing (potentially)

I’m wondering where Garner fits also

Chris Lawrence will be 30 years old next month and Elijah Taylor will be 29 next February. Wests Tigers need to look at good young second rowers for the future which they are now doing.

Nah, Garner will be part of the future too. With Rowdy getting on and ET's future unknown, there's definitely a place for Garner.

Aloiai is the one I'll be interested in what they'll do with. Will he moved into the middle, or let go of?

Not too excited about this. Just another signing imo. Is he one that'll improve us as a whole? I'm not convinced. Hope he proves me wrong.

Well three other clubs were after him. So our coaching staff saw in him what we needed.
He is definite improvement as far as I’m concerned.

Some are a bit ignorant of his talents.

Could be the best forward signing we've made in a while.

**They can get a good look on Saturday.
Coming off the bench (No. 17) in a 1st grade final so can't be too bad.**

I hope so momo&medo we need something. I read that he said this club was his best opportunity for a first grade spot. So I think he knows his current abilities and those he would have been in competition with elsewhere - he realised that we were the weakest. He's no dummy.

Our fans dazzle me. You pick up a regular first grader from the no 1 team in the comp who has shown an amazing skillset and is better then any forward we currently possess and people still whinge.
Firstly we arent a super destination so to beat out the likes of Souths is awesome. Secondly we need more first graders not fringe first graders and we just got one and one in a position of need.

He is a lock forward, for mine ….. we still need that one big body mobile second row forward to round off our forward pack.

I have never seen him play lock, nor refererred to as a lock, I think he is an edge backrower with size speed and skill, exactly what we need
