I've never seen him play, but the hype is there.

How has he been going? Did he get a couple of games in Intrust Super Cup a few weeks back?

Whats the go with him at wing in the NYC and Sharpe at fullback.

Anyone think he could step up to First Grade next year on the wing.

He's played about 3 games in NYC. That's it. Still very early days.

Long term he's a better fullback prospect than Sharpe but coming in half way through the season i think they're trying to minimise disruptions in the squad any more than there needs be. With others getting callups to Intrust a bit of stability is good, and Sharpe has been playing very well too.

I also think he's playing wing because with Teddy, his best shot at playing first grade with us is on the wing. Why not give him some experience there now. Like Trobejevic, biding his time on the wing.

I'd highly doubt he'd be considered for first grade next season, at least not til towards the end. He needs to develop physically but has been solid in attack and defence thus far. Played a combo of centre, wing and fullback in the games i've seen him in.

Whats the go with him at wing in the NYC and Sharpe at fullback. Wing is his best chance of playing NRL for us. He won't force Tedesco out of fullback. I guess they are just working on his game as a winger.

Anyone think he could step up to First Grade next year on the wing. Definitely possible. Maybe not in Round 1 but at some stage.

Played at full back vs Souths. Honestly didn't notice him much unlike his debut on the wing which i thought was very good. Only just turned 18, and not the biggest of boys. Would be very surprised to see him near FG next year. His time will come though and hopefully it will be on the wing as we will still have Teddy at the back.

Wests Tigers Holden Cup player Ryan Papenhuyzen has been named in the NSW U/18 Origin team to take on Queensland on June 22 at Suncorp Stadium.

Papenhuyzen, who turned 18 last Friday, has been named at fullback for the match.

A product of the Balmain junior development system, Papenhuyzen made his Holden Cup debut for the Club in Round 9 this year and has scored three tries in four games.

The NSW U/18's game will feature as the curtain-raiser for next Wednesday's State of Origin Game II, with the match scheduled to kick off at 5:40pm at Suncorp Stadium.

Wests Tigers would like to congratulate Ryan on his representative selection!

Great work young fellow in making the NSW Under 18s and has potential. However he still has 2 years in the under 20s left so plenty of time and given he is a small bloke he won't be rushed into the top grade unnecessarily. Someone like Latrell Mitchell came in at 18 but he is 105kg at 18 while Ryan was only 75kg so will need to develop phsically

With a surname like that - he's not a Russian experiment by any chance - or did we close down that program in the Sheens tenure?

I'd wager his surname is Dutch if anything. Just a guess though.

Yep, he has dutch heritage

He's the same height as Teddy, just needs to fill out and bulk up. An off season will do him the world of good. As long as he can fill out he'll be a very good chance of first grade. Not sure a Hodgson type player could survive in the modern game. Won't be rushed.

Was nice and solid against Souths. Scored a try, defused all bombs. Not spectacular, just did his job.

Still a boy (albeit a super talent) won't be the type that plays NRL at a super young age, So wont be in NRL for a few years yet.
That said he looks destined to be an NRL player.
He is small now, but as a reasonable frame to put muscle on and will be ok in that department IMO

It would be an interesting to read stats on how many junior so called "Super Stars" go on to successful NRL careers.

I have been on this Forum for a number of years and read other Forum member's comments on the next Super Star in our ranks and for whatever reason only a handful make it.

Marion Seve was suppose to be the next Steve Renouf (sorry about spelling) yet so far he is playing QLD cup. I think Renouf was one of the best centres I have ever seen so I was eager for Seve to kick on due to our issues with centres over the years.

Another player known as "Mighty Mouse" apparently carved them up in lower grades then his career did not kick on.

Seems like some kids peak in the junior years.

I appreciate Teddy was identify as a future star and those predictions were spot on.

Given the success of Grant and ET I think the way forward is to have a mixture of talented youth and experience hard head NRL players. Melbourne seem to be successful with this formula.

We have had a million over the years, usually a 6 7 or a 1 who can run like the wind and small in statue. They all get physically hammered when they get a crack at the top grade. Of course there are exceptions, Teddy was a standout out from day one and at every new level he just gets better. I also think Moses will be something special because he has talent but he also has self believe by the bucket loads.

As for Ryan P ..saw him the other night, he looks good but size could be a issue, but he is only a kid so he has plenty of time to pump iron

I can still remember people chastising people like Willow and myself who were pushing for Tedesco starting in 2012

And you brought up Renouf , he took years to develop , people truly were concerned his hands would never get to an acceptable level

As a Queensland fan, Ryan was exceptional at the back for NSW. Positional play very high quality and was always around the ruck waiting for an offload. Well done Ryan, and I look forward to watching your career blossom as you develop in the Wests Tigers system.

Young Blues Smash Queensland

The NSW under-18s Origin side have blown their Queensland counterparts off the park, shutting them out 26-0.

The back three of the Blues were the best players on the park, with Zac Lomax scoring a magnificent double, Issac Lumelume scoring one and setting up two, and Ryan Papenhuyzen having an incredible match at fullback.

The match started as an absolute disaster for Queensland winger, Michael Carroll, dropped the ball off the kick-off.

Off the scrum, Ryan Papenhuyzen showed some incredible lateral speed to get on the outside of his defender, and create an overlap for Lomax to score the first try of the match before a tackle had even been made.

The Blues doubled their lead after Sean O’Sullivan put up a bomb that went uncontested by Queensland, and Lumelume caught it above his head to unloaded to Samuel Radovu, who scored with ease.

The left centre-wing pairing combined perfectly on the stroke of halftime to extend the Blues’ lead to 12-0\. Tui Afualo gave a good ball to Lumelume, who beat his first defender, drew the fullback, and passed back to Afualo to go over untouched.

Lomax increased the Blues’ lead to 18-0 when he pulled off an absolute miracle of a try. A kick went up, he re-gathered but it seemed the ball was going to fall out of his grasp. On his way down to the line, he juggled the ball on the end of his fingertips to eventually plant the ball down and score an amazing try.

Coach Brad Fittler said before the game that he wants Cameron Murray to shine and display his seemingly endless potential for this game, and he certainly stamped his authority in the second half when he busted through the line, drew the fullback and gave it off for a speedy Papenhuyzen, who was lingering in support.

Lomax converted the first goal of the match, which extended the Blues’ lead to 22-0.

Lumelume ran in a late try to cap off a great 26-0 win for the young Blues.
