Interestin Latrell Mitchell was SGBall player of the year, Papenhuyzen HM player of the year. Gives some comparison to the quality of winners

Craigie is an extreme example so I will give you a Fittler or Clyde as example of players with proven junior rep records. Teal is another as is Mikaele.

Terrible decision by WTs and the club has to wear a black eye for it.

Does anyone wonder why the player we are reportedly interested in signing has already been to 3 clubs?

How many junior stars have we signed over the years that amounted to nothing, or fringe first graders at best when they play against men whom are not only the best in their age group, but in the world?

By your logic we shouldn't have a crack any established star first grader because there's a kid out there destroying kids his own age?
Even from my age group coming through so many players didn't even make local regional age group sides

Michael Hancock , Willie Carne , John Plath from my era didn't make local rep sides let alone state or national sides

Twal & Mikaele have not proven themselves beyond decent first grader and guy with potential.
Part of it is around balancing the salary cap, but I think with an endless budget I could buy 10 better front rowers

You can find plenty of duds in those lists as well.

Wests Tigers made Papenhuyzen an offer as did Melbourne..should we have upped it more..It was still his choice to go.....he confirmed that himself in an article

What were the amounts of the contract we offered him.
Means nothing saying we offered him a contract if that contract was an insult or didnt rate the kid.

No idea..Melbourne tho aren't noted for paying overs for players and supposedly shopping him around at the start of this year according to Rothfield to get Cammy cap complaint...would imagine it would have been in the same ballpark..

Yeah i doubt The Storm broke the bank for him.

Just not sure the club made Ryan feel like he was part of the big picture.

The Club deserves a black eye over this outcome. Isaac Moses told the club to jump and our reply was "how high". Getting on the front foot, refusing to play Moses' game and securing our next in line was the best outcome.

@Masterton I think this points to a problem. A real problem.

The player, rightly or wrongly. Believes that Melbourne can coach him better at FB and rehab his injuries better.
Brett Hodges is on our coaching team now. We had Tedesco playing with us. Billy is a great Fullback but why wern't we appealing. Do we have to sell our coaching services better or do they need improvement.

Pretty simple, he left as Tedesco was in front of him.

Yes, went to melb who had Slater....but Slater was within two years of retiring.

What would have been nice = Tedesco had of been up front about bailing.

Given he had already 'left' once though (Canberra) we probably should have been much more proactive in keeping the next bloke in line...

if we new Tedesco was leaving we could have signed him on potenteial but Its how the cards fell and we came off 2nd best. Nothing stopping us from letting Melbourne develop him and us sign him when his out of contract. Takes the gamble out of it if he is an established first grader. **You can't keep them all.**

Or any, in our case! 😂

But when you look at it he had to compete with Drinkwater , Hughes and possibly Munster

Melbourne's winning culture perhaps? Plus he probably witnessed the remarkable change in Ado-Carr's game once he was at the Storm.

All utilities who can play 6,7.

At that time, when he left the Tigers, we were a mess on and off the field. The kid had an opportunity to go down to Melbourne and be part of the Storm system under Bellamy and with a mentor like Slater. We weren't showing him any love or future potential in the NRL so I am not at all surprised that he took that opportunity.
