Come on man, the dogs were ridiculed for recruiting in a bus load of utilities. All were smart buys from good systems and all blocked from FG because of strong rosters apart from Xerri. They have made a significant difference to a team that had invested in some talent but was camped in the bottom of the comp with the same coach.
It was smart recruitment and has given the coach a decent roster to work with the results speak for themselves. Burton JAC and Mahoney having great seasons after a couple of average ones, and Crichton would make a difference to any team he played for. Any coach success goes hand in hand with the roster he has to work with and his team this year has been significantly bolsted by all those players who have all mostly maintained their position in the side.
Especially seeing that an often spoken about weakness was their front row.
However as I’m not a dogs fan but one of their struggles last year was having depth for injuries.
In hindsight you can say it was a masterstroke to recruit who they had but the initial reaction wasn’t as positive.
