Sack Marshall

All were smart buys from good systems and all blocked from FG because of strong rosters apart from Xerri. They have made a significant difference to a team that had invested in some talent but was camped in the bottom of the comp with the same coach.
It was smart recruitment and has given the coach a decent roster to work with the results speak for themselves. Burton JAC and Mahoney having great seasons after a couple of average ones, and Crichton would make a difference to any team he played for. Any coach success goes hand in hand with the roster he has to work with and his team this year has been significantly bolsted by all those players who have all mostly maintained their position in the side.
Come on man, the dogs were ridiculed for recruiting in a bus load of utilities.
Especially seeing that an often spoken about weakness was their front row.
However as I’m not a dogs fan but one of their struggles last year was having depth for injuries.
In hindsight you can say it was a masterstroke to recruit who they had but the initial reaction wasn’t as positive.

Ridiculed by people who got it wrong. Stand by that I always thought they recruited well and copped some push back for saying so. Dont have to go on again why I think it was smart recruitment, the proof is for all to see in their improvement. It will put them in a good position to keep attracting players to further strengthen their squad and was exactly what they needed to get them moving up the ladder.

I think there was plenty wrong with it in hindsight because Sheens didn't want that role, he wanted to coach. Got what he wanted and showed yet again he was past it, setting us back further then ever.
It's weird because... I just don't know.

Did Sheens want to coach OR did Lee H, etc strongarm him into it?

Either way, the board realised their error too late. In appointing Scott Fulton the board knew that they needed expertise outside of Sheens. ....

Having Sheens as coaching advisor made sense. The whole "Sheens + Marshall" Idea was incredibly dumb and I almost left the club it's so SO dumb!

Clearly the board doesn't realise how important football skills and experience are. The key mistake was us choosing Gardiner over Flanagan as assistant coach.

The interesting part is how they managed to recruit a team over the top of the majority of juniors they have that they were promising a future at the club.
Some have left, like Topine, Averilo, Edwards, Rajab, Alamoti, Tanner and Casey. But there are still quite a few juniors at the club that are stuck behind their top squad.

It is funny that our ‘fresh’ start still includes a board member that has been there for quite some time.
Danny Stapleton was the only football type on the board but I’m not sure why he was / is the head of our list committee. Should this be a new appointment?
The Fresh start also includes the Chair from 2019.
Stapo seems to be a survivor.

Are they missing them? The juniors there have incentive to play to a level to make the FG squad. A far better situation than advancing them before they are ready, and or because they're is no one else.

Really? Money and a job I guess but his sanity and reputation will end up being shot.
He stated in an interview on 2sen that he just wants to coach anywhere, even if it means packing up and going to the UK . But he did say he wont be an assistant to anyone.

Who knows what Richo is doing - it is a closed shop until we land someone. Simpkins - no leaks, AJ, no leaks. There is clearly a plan - we won't know what it is until Richo is ready to share it with us. He has been pretty clear that there is going to be some pain!
I reckon one thing Richo is doing is working on giving more support to Benji. Rather than setting him up to fail, setting him up to succeed next season.

Already done ...
1 - Richo is now on board to help Beni & co with recruitment (so no paying overs, no stupid clauses etc etc)

I reckon in the works ...
2 - Identifying & recruiting an assistant coach with experience (with attacking structure nous)
3 - Some sort of mentorship/coaching of Benji as a head coach (partly Richo to do this but someone else maybe as a consultant). I'd suss out England coach Shaun Wane as a consultant or someone a bit closer to home Brad Fittler.

100%

This season was always a write off.

We had false hope after the win against the sharks. We saw a glimpse into what the future could look like.

The team got up for that game and played the full 80 minutes. It was our best and will be our best match all season.
Was always a right off??? I can't believe that. Nor can you. Especially after knocking of Cronulla and Parramatta side by side...

If they did it once, they can do it again. One of the few games Stef ran hard.

Every single year we have a couple of surprise wins when better teams have an off day. Last year we put 66 on NQ. Then they put 70 on us.

Doesn’t change the fact we were always going to struggle hard this year. Too young, too many passengers.

What I am saying is that we as a club are on a similar path to the Dogs but a little behind them.
Funny that last year Gus kept saying that Dogs are behind Tigers.

In terms of comparison between the two teams/ coaches. Ciraldo has Gus to lean on. He has Mick Potter, Jason Taylor as a part of his team as well. And obviously not to mention that Ciraldo has coached Panthers U20s and Reserve Grade teams for close to a decade as well as coached Italy.

Bulldogs won Jersey Flegg last year. They are in the Top 4 in KOE whereas we are last.

I don't think there is any comparison at all. They're much far ahead of us. The only resemblance is that we are last now, they were last 3-4 years ago.
