Salary Cap Rumour

You would think if it had legs every second media outlet on the eastern seaboard would be onto it. Checked a few other forums and could not find anything. We all dream the Chooks have been caught rorting big time but I doubt that will happen in my life time. Fingers crossed Iam wrong but I smell a beat up

Yeah I think Hughes and co have thrown a hail Mary. To this date I don't believe the penalties have been confirmed against Manly, Cronulla and Wests (pending appeal.)

These three are in no way big clubs.

Not big clubs but they are Sydney clubs. To some media types this makes them big clubs.

That'll be the 3.

# Salary cap probe could force Cronulla Sharks to cut star signing Shaun Johnson

The Cronulla Sharks face the prospect of being without star signing Shaun Johnson for the start of the NRL season as the salary cap investigation drags on.[Brent Read from the Australian reports)

NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg informed the club this week that the outcome of the probe may not be known until the end of February.

It would leave the club with little time to become salary cap compliant, should they be hit with a substantial penalty as has been widely speculated.

Johnson could also be forced into the open market with the Parramatta Eels and the Wests Tigers among the limited options available due to salary cap space.

The Eels offloaded playmaker Corey Norman in the off season while the Tigers are confident of overturning a $640,000 salary cap penalty handed to the club over Robbie Farah’s role as an ambassador.

Read reports there is mounting speculation the salary cap issues at the Sharks are worse than first thought with interviews with players and staff only being completed this week.

The Sharks came under the scrutiny of the NRL in August after self-reporting potential third party breaches uncovered during a club-initiated governance review.

That's what I'm saying, they're just working on the assumption that all three clubs will cop their penalties together, Geward Condom was probably trying to generate some press for his tipping site.

How beautiful, Tigers get their fine overturned, suddenly several hundred thousand dollars become available under the cap and a top-tier player lands in our lap.

In what world though do things work out so beautifully for the Tigers?

Yep id say so. They just dress it up as "big clubs" because they have a Sydney audience.

Come to think of it the Roosters could be a possibility as their sponsors were a international money transfer company and the federal police are involved. So it could be illegal money transfers on the Roosters part.

I dont think anything exceptional with AFP involvement. I suspect they would have been needed to formalize inquiries with tax office.

If these are 3 new salary cap breach charges not old stuff rehashed inc WT it just goes to show the mechanism as is is broken and needs fixing. My first suggestion is that any new contract presented by clubs to NRL for registration has to be supported by evidence they will remain within cap compliance.

Slothfield saying its all crap in regards to the sharks losing their premiership. Would love for him to be wrong.

The fact that clubs won't be bailed out financially anymore, adding more teams will dilute the quality of the games and the admit that more teams outside Sydney would be good for the age, suggests the NRL has there fingers crossed a team goes bankrupt. Big fines to poor clubs just pushes that cart downhill a bit quicker.

If thats the case its definitley the Roosters, Broncos and Panthers. Greenberg wouldnt let his class pets face any music.

* Sydney Roosters
* NZ Warriors
