Salesi Funaki...

Lol @ Wests Tigers

Good on him and his father for ensuring his son can continue to develop into an NRL Player.

Watch this space!

There was a rumour on another site about him going to the Broncos.

I’d be really interest to learn of the difference between our previous NYC coach, Webster and the current coach, Kimmorely.

These rumoured departures of Martin and Funaki, was Webster more on top of player management?

I'd love to hear your reasons on this one Milky.

Because WT's have had their pants pulled down.
Funaki has been playing as good if not better than Lamar, And doesn't seem to be given the same credit…

He's a star - One of our better back row prospects. But with Siro and Lawrence having the mortgage - Can see why he legged it.

Has been treated like a player who Taylor doesnt know what to do with. Used more as utility than someone the club has a plan for and is keen to develop.

If he has signed elsewhere, good luck to him and i hope he comes back to bite us.

There are a number of State Cup players who have been given the same treatment, really poor way to keep interest up around the club and have everyone committed and playing well.

Dont even get me started on Akauola.

Why would you say that.

I think we definitely let the wrong one go…

If he went to Parra (local junior) or Panthers you think "who cares", but the fact he has gone to Brisbane is indication Wayne obviously rates him.
(Brisbane dont need backrowers/props in the talent department)

Unless WT are planning a complete structure change, I dont see a role for Lamar. He is a wide-running backrower, and they have no place in our current structure.

I have seen clubs clearing the decks before, but if this exodus continues we will be lucky to fill three grades

Doesn't seem to be in JT's plan so I have no issue with him looking elsewhere.

I think a lot of Wests Tigers fans would like to know what JT's plans really are. At the moment it looks like it is to get rid of as many promising players as possible while at the same time not buy any new player until at least 2017.

The only thing i can remember him saying was that he wanted to assess every player involved with the squad. He was going to get rid of players who didn't fit what he was looking for when building the new culture. He was aiming to recruit what we were short in. The only problem with that plan is, we have no money to recruit. We need more bargain buys like Kevin naquama!

Youre right, the plan is reduce the salary cap spend at all costs.

Its not a renovation, its knock down and rebuild.

I'm gonna go ahead and play devil's advocate here, but anyone else think JT prefers the Anglo, Aussie sorts of players over some of the Polynesian blokes?
Without knowing the ins and outs of the situation it seems that Funaki and Akauola (who 12 months ago was an NRL player) have been shafted all year positionally, and if what someone else was saying about Fletcher recommending Fine as the best second rower/centre we've got in the lower grades, but he can't get a run.
Not knocking Lovett, Buchanan or Santi, they try which is all you can ask, but when you compare last year's bench of Taupau, Ava, Sue and Gavet to some of this year's offerings there's a distinctly safer feel about them.
I also think Funaki is head and shoulders above Liolevave (who seems to struggle running of someone other than Martin) and should have been retained, though can't begrudge him leaving.

Maybe JT has David Faalogo on his mind!

Would be a disgrace to lose one of our top local juniors who was killing it in pre-season. He's been played out of position for almost the entire season, despite other players playing poorly in his natural position in the back row.

He's been playing a year or two ahead of his age all his career and been a constant standout. Unless he doesn't put in at training i can't see why we'd want to get rid of a top local junior who's on peanuts. Unless that little amount is enough to top up what little else we have to upgrade Martin.

But he hasn't been picked in any team this week. And was dropped to NYC last week.
