Samuela Fainu #280

This will age like spilt milk.
Tartak tends to not torpedo clubs as a modus operende . The manly club genuinely screws up and called the Fainu boys thugs and not worthy of the manly jersey . Got back to the family , the rest is history . They almost lost Olakuatu in the process as well … so yea . That’s the story anyway. Some Northern Beaches elitism … so par for the course .
His Ban is from trying to sign young kids , and Tartak has a good rep in the game for taking care of his clients . Generally . I’m sure there’s stories out there to the contrary .
Moses as I’ve stated a million times , it’s like he read the Scott Boras book on how to manage , and never changed . Keeping clubs in thier toes , controlling and leveraging for outcomes , and being able to convince his clients to move if a better opportunity arises . He will get you every last cent out of your career , no matter the cost .
No other manager operates like that . There was a time that he and the Orr brothers were going head to head on who was the biggest piece of shit in the nrl , but even they’ve learnt from thier ban .
How his whole company isn’t blacklisted is beyond me . He must have Vlandys bent over a table getting pegged down Oxford st , caught on video , or taking bribes down Randwick . I have zero idea how his whole company hasn’t been deregistered rather than him alone .

Not true & there’s a reason why people that do know the truth have not spoken about it.

Good to hear a bit more from Samuela on the pod. Some good insights into his attitude and family challenges. One of the podcasters is a bit of a punish to listen to though.
💯 agree.

Liked Samuela, Hard work and discipline.

Mario T, V impressive

The podcast itself is a bit of a strain.

Give it a listen folks

Just listened to this podcast and it just rams home how great the Fainu brothers are for our club and our club for the brothers.

Also picked up a few gems that others have touched on above ...

... Samuela already training through October
... Benji already talking with Mario about Manase playing at the Tigers down the track (but ultimately it will be an NRL decision)
... The impact Luai has had on the club & team off-the-field
... How valuable both Luai & Turuva are for the culture and how they get everyone revved up
... In the leadership group are Api, Luai, Bula, Twal, AD, Seyfarth, Pole, Turuva & Samuela (and I've heard elsewhere that Star is too)
Who’s not in the leadership group?

I just seen the posty drop off a letter, that must be my invite.

Don’t see how it could be bigger than this year bringing in Luai, May, Turuva etc. Next year looks to be more of the same given the roster hasn’t improved. We have a ceiling of 11th or 12th.
GNR,
Maths doesn’t answer everything. However, analysis around stability in playing groups is incredibly compelling.

Yet, obviously it’s not stability on its own that matters. Fundamental talent of players is obviously a dependency.

So, to your point, 2025 we SIGNIFICANTLY improved the talent of our roster.

Now… stability is king. Stability is where our results will come from.

And yes, before you hit reply, Latu’s injury is a massive hurdle which will delay the stability dividend. The maths says that stability in the ‘highly social roles’ (aka Spine) is key.

From a stable base we can then continue to tweak the roster.

Tigers on the up

We don’t even have an established halfback. Don’t even know who it will be round 1. Latu has a ton of of potential, but he’s basically what inspired the Samuel L Jackson character, Mr Glass.
This is my concern , how long do you give a young guy to show his potential / ability in the nrl , I feel for the guy as he never gets a run of 6 to 8 games to show , he comes up injured regularly, I hope he gets past it but how long do you wait , Wests Tigers don’t have a half in the nrl we are using AD as a stop gap and Latu when not injured , hardly the perfect way to get to the 8 , if I was Benji I would run AD all season or close to it , get Latu over his injuries and play him in reserve grade until he is killing it , or off the bench after 6 or so reserve grade games but again he has to be showing he is better than AD to replace him , we can cover lock with Twal Twal or Sione , lock

We have plugged some holes at 2nd row and to some degree the middle and centre
It's what the majority on here wanted all season so it looks like this will be the strategy for the roster going forward to add when needed to strengthen the squad.

No one can say when the improvement will kick in going forward to reach top 8 but if you keep improving the weak spots it will happen, just impossible to predict.

competition for spots isn’t a bad thing. Latu, doueihi and even madden would be fighting for the 7 jersey.
At this point in time, I think AD has the smarts over Latu in running the halfback position for WT to push for a finals berth.
Agree Latu should earn his place from an injury free period running the KOE team.
But I see Madden there teaching Javon Andrews how running the show is done.
A dilemma for the selectors and succession plan. May the best combo win!
Latu having a crook shoulder will put him behind the eight ball in the off season.
Improving his tackling technique would be a good start for his longevity and his lifting spear tackle style which is line ball on being called a dangerous tackle-----penalty!

Latu's injuries really is becoming an enigma F if I know what to do with him when he's fit It's not easy to leave him out of the side his pace off the mark is sharp and can hit hard in defense.

These are the qualities you need in your side, off the bench to replace a tired lock looks to be the way to go until his body hardens up.
