Score Updates?

Thanks to everyone for their updates from the game.
Sounds like Tedesco was exciting and here's hope Grant keeps developing

Look forward to seeing the side go around next weekend at Campbelltown with Rowdy, Farah and Brown all likely to get gametime. Just good news that no major injuries were sustained.

I know its only a trial and almost nothing is expected this year from the Eels,

But it sure is good to start the year with a win and no major injuries.

I agree.
nice to read/hear that the team is combining well so far.
need to see it done consistently during the season. 😛ray:
expectation is high for wests-tigers to go well.

last two seasons, wests-tigers have got to the grand final qualifier, and not been able to progress.
who knows what is in store for this season. :wtf
its time to enjoy the ride again

Tigers beat Eels 20-12 in NRL trial

Wests Tigers brushed off the cobwebs and Parramatta, as Tim Sheens' men gave a glimpse of why they're considered NRL premiership favourites with a 20-12 trial win in Gosford.

The Tigers' new halves combination of Benji Marshall and Tim Moltzen produced a superb opening 40 minutes to have the black and gold faithful salivating ahead of the season, while there was enough from Eels' new boy Chris Sandow to suggest brighter times ahead for Parramatta.

Marshall and Moltzen laid on three of the Tigers' four first-half tries - each coming up with a crisp cut-out pass to set up four-pointers before working together to send Matt Utai over for his second of the night.

The 20-6 halftime scoreline wasn't added to until just before the fulltime siren when Vai Toutai scored for the Eels, the standard falling away as both coaches emptied their benches.

There was no Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Hindmarsh, Reni Maitua or recruit Willie Tonga for the Eels, but it was Parramatta's $550,000 man Sandow that the blue and gold fans among the 13,622 crowd were most interested in seeing.

The former Souths man was busy without being spectacular in 54 minutes on the paddock, a neat cross-field kick for Esi Tonga to score being his highlight of the night.

It was countered by an intercept from near his own line which he butchered when he ignored flying winger Ken Sio in support, only to be run down 10 metres out from the Tigers line.

Sandow never returned after that effort, the nuggety halfback taking a few minutes to regain his breath before taking a seat on the bench.

The Tigers lost Liam Fulton with a nasty cut under the left eye while Eels prop Mitchell Allgood lasted just three minutes before leaving the field with concussion.

Was at the game parra offered very little. Tigers had complete control of the game. Just toying with the opposition. Going to be a long season for parra as they have little on what I saw. Also sandow looks severely overweight and predictable. Jeez looks like he spent have his money in the pokies and Kfc

From the Eels POV

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels showed glimpses of their 2012 potential tonight but it wasn’t enough, going down 20-12 in the inaugural Sean Burns Memorial Shield at Bluetongue Stadium, Gosford.

Coach Steve Kearney opted to rest skipper Nathan Hindmarsh and Jarryd Hayne from the match, with Taulima Tautai (second row) and Cheyse Blair (wing) coming into the starting lineup.

The Eels lost Mitch Allgood early when he was knocked out cold while attempting to tackle Aaron Woods. Allgood, heavily concussed, had to be assisted from the field.

Despite the loss the Eels looked dangerous early, with Chris Sandow attacking the right side of the Tigers defence and going close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

It was the Tigers that struck first however, a beautiful cut-out pass from Benji Marshall finding Matt Utai for a try in the corner.

The Eels repelled several Tigers attacks to hit back midway through the first half, with Chris Sandow the architect. Sandow’s cross-field bomb was pinpoint, finding Esi Tonga on the fly who touched down to score.

With the scores locked at 6-all, the Eels looked close to going ahead from another Sandow bomb only for Justin Horo to knock on in-goal. The Tigers made the Eels pay minutes later, with Gareth Ellis busting through a gap to send Blake Ayshford over to score.

The Tigers backed it up with another try minutes later after the Eels failed to recover a Benji Marshall high ball. Tigers halfback Tim Moltzen through a deft left-to-right ball to Ayshford, who set up Beau Ryan for the try.

A questionable offside penalty against the Eels two minutes from halftime put the Blue and Golds under pressure once again, and Marshall took full advantage, running a slick play down the left flank to send Utai over for his second. The NRL All Stars five-eighth didn’t have the best night with the boot though, hitting the uprights with two of his conversions, leaving the halftime score at 20-6.

After some to and fro’ing for the majority of the second half it was Sandow again who threatened to get the Eels back on the front foot, intercepting a Tigers pass to run 90 metres but getting pulled up metres short of the line. Sandow was assisted from the field following the try-saving tackle from Moltzen.

The Eels’ night didn’t really improve from there, with handling errors thwarting any attempt on the Tigers line. A consolation try on the full-time to NYC centre Vai Toutai gave the Eels faithful something to smile about, which was converted by Joseph Paulo from the sideline. Otherwise, the second half failed to live up to the exciting first stanza, with both coaches using the opportunity to test their positional depth.

Following the match, Eels CEO Bob Bentley and Tigers counterpart Stephen Humphries were on hand with relatives of the late Sean Burns – former Eels and Tigers strength and conditioning coach who died tragically earlier this month - present the Memorial Shield to the winning captain.

That article is parramatta propaganda. They are an ordinary team who are extremely predictable and slow around the ruck. They have a lot of work to do. Feel sorry for those parra fans as they aren't in the same class as the tigers. Going to be a long season. If I was sandow getting 550 thou a year I would be laughing all the y to the bank. Seems to have lost speed and looks unfit

Nice to hear that Moltz/Benji combined well.

Scores are irrelevant in trials, but very happy with the match reports tonight.

Thanks for all the score updates guys Well done to the Tigers

Even though it is only a trial good to get some winning form early in the season and build some combinations

Of the two fullbacks who was the most impressive ??

I love beating the eels but as others have stated the score is irrelevant.
Good to hear the boys played well and no major injuries.
Looking forward to round one, hope we smoke Cronulla.

Happy, tedesco was fairly patchy at the start and he copped a good knock. But after that he seemed to settle down ANC took a couple of really nice bombs. He will be better for the run.

Humble didn't get long at the back and was moved to the halves when moltzen went off. He didn't get many opportunities and looked s little out if place in the halves.

The fullback who really impressed me was Kurtis Rowe in the U20's. That kid can play!

Chorion looks very promising too - except fir the bombed try at the end.

Thanks Tigersmurf for the feedback It looks like Sheens will have happy headaches for round 1 A lot of people to fit into 17 spots Always a good sign ,keeps everyone on their toes

I missed the last 10 minutes but aside from two in-goal fumbles which didn't result in any points conceeded Tedesco was impressive.

Humble went OK at fullback too but hard to judge. Looked out of place in halves though and all his kicks were poor.

Second half was very ordinary and scrappy from both teams. Lots of replacements on and off, hard to keep up.

First half with full strength side we were impressive. As we should be as Parramatta remain a poor side across the park. They were missing Hayne, Hindmarsh and Tonga which will help them but they were very average and predictable.

Of the new recruits I was most impressed with Reddy and Blair. Reddy's defense is quality. Blair was very good in first half, strong in both attack and defense.
