Firstly a Big Thank you to NRL Stats from where I sourced all the stats for this review and also to this dammed cold which has kept me in bed with nothing else to do today except lay around trying to distract myself from feeling sick. Apologies I have tried to attach the excel file with the stats for the season so far but it wont let me upload for some reason

I have pulled together all the key stats from NRL Stats for the Tigers over the first 5 rounds and then below done a review of some key areas

I am going to start with a review of some key stats leaders good and bad and then onto a review of each player so far in 2012\. I along with all of you know stats arent everything but in saying that they can often bring some realism to a very emotional debate for all of us

Stat 1 - Minutes / Error - I have classed an error as a wider Missed Tackle, Ineffective Tackle, Error and Penalties Conceded for a total negative stats - obviously the higher the number of minutes the longer the player goes between making mistakes
Worst (Min 2 Games and at least 40 minutes)
Matt Groat - 8.4 Minutes
Matt Bell - 10.2
Adam Blair 10.4

Worst Outside Back -Blake Ayshford - 11.2
Best Outside Back- Joel Reddy -31.4
Best Forward -Ben Murdoch Masiala - 27.8
Best Spine - Tom Humble -17.6
Worst Spine - Tim Moltzen - 14.7

Overall Commentry - Matt Groat as many would expect is the worst with Missed tackles being his key driver whereas Bell is driven by ineffective tackles. Adam Blair also struggles with Penalties and Missed Tackles being stong. The performance of BMM to be the most disciplined forward is impressive while Joel Reddy clearly shows why he has gained the centre position over Ayshford. The spine stats are all fairly close and don't tell us too much

Stat 2 - Tackles Made / (Missed Tackles plus Ineffective tackles)
- This stat to me provides defensive effectiveness and while it isnt perfect it does allow you to compare players (especially those in similar positions- Forwards, Halves, Outside Backs) looking at not just the pure number of missed or ineffective tackles but out of how many after all if you miss 1 from 2 its much worse then 1 from 1000
Worst - The worst 3 represent players with a low tackle count due to their position as much as their tackling but the forwards are further indicative
Matt Utai-1.67
Beau Ryan-2.50
Benji Marshall-2.63

Worst Forward- Adam Blair - 4.50 (Groat is next at 5.14)
Best Forward - BMM -17.67 (Fulton next at 13.67)
Best Outside Back- Chris Lawrence - 5.35
Best Spine -Robbie Farah - 12.56

Stat 3 -Involvement (Tackle or Run) / Penalty - This allows us to look further into the discipline issues we have faced
Worst 3
Tom Humble -24
Adam Blair -30
Matt Utai - 31

Best Forward -
Best Spine - Benji - No penalties just in front of Robbie 160 involvements for 1 penalty
Best Outside back - Joel Reddy no penalities in 69 (Lawrence averaging 68.5 involvements per penalty next)

Stat 4 -Involvement Stat - This Minutes / Run+Tackle
This shows just how involved a player is - however it is obviously very different depending on your position- Very impressive to see Woods leading the way - Blair unfortunatly again the worst forward
Best 3
Woods- 1.177 mins
Bell -1.182
Fulton- 1.320

Worst Forward - Blair -2.153 min (Just in front of Hieghno 1.793)
Best Back - Chris Lawrence - 2.956
Worst back -Matt utai - 5.065
Best Spine- Robbie Farah - 1.519
Worst Spine -Benji - 5.000 (Although Spine is lobviously very different for this stat)

Stat 5 -Meters / Run - This looks at just how effective a player is when running the ball a key stat
Best 3
Lawrence - 9.07
Blake Ayshford -8.61
Matt Utai -8.54

Best Forward - Matt Bell 8.48 (Just in front of woods -7.98)
Worst Forward - Chris Heighington -6.17 (Groat next at 6.66)
Worst OBack - Joel Reffy -6.77

I picked up the following Key Learnings
1) Blair and Groat as we all thought have been the worst forwards especially Blair
2) Woods has lead from the Front while BMM and Bell have been very impressive off the bench
3) Lawrence hasn't been as bad statistically as he has seemed so far this year - However he has really struggled to break the line
4) Ayshford has had a lot of bad mixed in with his good while reddy has been very solid

Also he didnt quite have enough minutes for my qualifying period above but Junior Moors was right up the good end of all these stats

Also interesting to note that Robbie touched the ball more in 3 games then anyone else has in all 5 with Benji next still about 60 behind
Hope this proves interesting
