Securing Cleary Is Better For The Club Than Anything Else

It's been a crap 6 weeks but I believe we will all be surprised how quickly we get over this. When we have these bouts of anger over what has transpired, I think we should take solace that we go Cleary. I cannot put my hand on why but I feel that down the track there are definately good times ahead.

We have been waiting for the alleged rebuilding faze of this club for years but now all the rot is gone I believe there is no other way bar up.

I have no ill feeling toward the 3 grubs  for leaving. It's the way they have done it that I think everyone has the issue with.

Again, had we not secured Ivan, our future would be twice as bleak.

Here's to the good times.. whenever that will be

Yep Clearly is the only reason I'm not in the foetal position. Hope he comes through with a good plan B

Agree. I think the other thing this situation highlights is that the key players at the Tigers have had too much power. For Tedesco and Woods to thumb their nose at the club in the way they have reeks of arrogance and disrespect, not to mention it's unprofessional to treat your employer in that regard.

The Tigers can't wait forever and I kind of fear they have actually done this a bit too late and missed opportunities to sign other players. Having said that, hopefully the club can attract some decent players over the next few weeks. Let's get a forward pack that can go forward and give the backs something to work with.

Willow i know we might have missed some signings but that the same time every available player out there knows we have the coin to splash and us signing players shouldnt be a hassle at all

I think its only the Knights and us with real coin the splash
Watch this space, im sure Cleary would be doing some high end shopping

None of the Corollas i drive, he'd be looking at Ferrari , Lambo etc

Yeah 100%. Ivan will know what to do with the cap money he has at his fingertips. I would worry if we were still under the control of JT. Cleary just seems very straightforward, knows his game plan and sticks with it.

Good OP.

For years I have listened to the suggestions/allegations about the power of the playing group at WT.

It was always about how much more difficult it was for the coach of the time to define a direction and have commitment to that direction from the players; Sheens, Potter and Taylor all, supposedly, suffered as a result.

I always thought it was the ego and prominence of people like Marshall or Farah or some intangible back-room/boardroom influence that just held onto some desperate cling to influence or power that was holding our club back. But i never really knew. And, I still don't.

Well, in comes Ivan Cleary and says "the star of the team is the team".

He, from reports, decides that the contract offers and negotiations have dragged on for too long for Tedesco and Woods and that it is impacting on the TEAM.

In a media release, he indicates that he has informed Isaac Moses and sets a time for a decision, and I think, in that interview about that decision showed respect and due deference for the contributions of both Woods and Tedesco to the club over past years.

He was respectful, dignified and, most importantly of all, decisive in why an endpoint was needed. It was about the TEAM,. It was about the FANS and SPONSORS and MEMBERS.

It was not about Ivan Cleary.

It was open, it was honest and it was brave. He was hopeful that they would stay.

Contrast that, if you don't mind, to the antics of Isaac Moses and Woods and Tedesco, to that ultimatum delivered by Cleary on behalf of the club.

The response was…..NOTHING!!

NO reply by deadline time and NO comment by players or manager.

Huh?? WTF??

Are we not, at least, due for some response?

I have parted with in excess of $20000 of multiple memberships and merchandise purchases over more than 10 years with this club. Big deal. It was my decision. Who cares?

I am due no more regard or respect than any other Tigers fan who may never ever attend a game but cares about our club as much as I do.

That's not the point.

But what in the hell is Woods and Tedesco thinking that they could allow their manager to ignore and disregard an ultimatum delivered by the Club on behalf of all of us?

And, one of them, for God's sake, is the current Club captain,

This is outrageous, mystifying and sad beyond words.

For someone who sits on the sidelines at games and is in awe of the courage and bravery of players in this most brutal of sports, the decision of these two to offer not even a whimper is beyond disappointing,

There aren't words for it.

How good is it to finally have a coach who is prepared to put his foot down and stop the players from trying to have control.

Absolutely. He's only been here a few weeks and has established the chain of command.
This is a big turning point for the team and hopefully the club.
