Instead the Broncos must beat a higher placed side (comparatively) than the Tigers.
The fact that the Broncos have already played the Warriors brings us back to the way Week 1 is setup.

In terms of giving the bottom 4 teams a chance to make the final, the McIntyre System has provided some of these teams with a GF spot in the last few years -
2011 - Manly (2) V Warriors (6)
2010 - St George (1) V Roosters (6)
2009 - Melbourne (4) V Parramatta (8)
2008 & 2007 - Melbourne and Manly were both 1 & 2
2011 - Manly (2) V Warriors (6)

Firstly the Friday and Saturday finals are a result of the league doing a deal with the broadcaster channel nine for moving the Grand Final game to 5.30pm on Sunday night.
As for the make up of the final series, I think the first week of the McIntyre is purely a money spinner for the broadcaster. I favor a final six mainly because no team below 1 and 2 should be getting a second byte of the cherry. I would abandon the first week of finals and just have the top 2 rewarded with a week off and then 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th with the losers bowing out and the winners go on the play the top 2\. The week that is freed up can make up another round of the normal season to make the competition fairer.

Apart from 6th who have made it a lot, the higher ranked teams do better than the lower ones. Of the 4 minor premiers not to make it, only 1 has failed to make the prelims (St George 09), the other 3 lost in the prelims (Sharks 99, Eels 05 and Storm 11). No team who eliminated the minor premiers before the grand final has won it though.
