Sezer Haters, Sezer fans... commit here

Not him specifically, but demanded more experience in the halves. He’s also recently said we didn’t have a go-to guy in the halves last year. Pretty damning on Brooks - don’t get me wrong, I thought Brooks has positives, but he didn’t handle pressure well in clutch situations.
If we signed Cogger it would have been more of the same in my opinion.

I'll have to be in the "Like It" column.

There are a number of reasons why Sezar, or someone like Sezar, works. This team desperately needs a reliable kicking game. Sezar can bring that. The forwards did their job with field position, but we were constantly let down when attacking the line.

Having an experienced player in the halves is important, particularly when your next most experienced option is....Adam Doueihi. Sullivan might benefit from Sezar, but I actually suspect it's Fainu that might get the most from him. Bud is like Benji- all attack, individual efforts, spark etc. Fainu is an organisor. If we can get Fainu's kicking game up to a Sezar level (career-wise) then we have one of the hardest elements to get right covered going forward.

Our backline is stupid young. The impact that a coolish head in Hastings had was quite noticable. Sezar has similar qualities in that manner to Hastings. Having someone the players look to on the field is important.

Goal kicking- plus.

The bit that seems to be overlooked for mine is the cost. A 1 year deal, with an option, on a friendly salary, that upgrades the position from last season (Brooks/Wakeham).

I don't think Sezar is anything more than a satisfactory half. But the things he provides that are good, are what we didn't have available. Our forwards should put us in position to compete. Sezar's kicking should put us in a position to capitolise. Now we just need someone to provide the sizzle to get the squad from average to above average.

Ah okay fair enough, he's certainly got experience, hope his body can hold up to a return to the NRL.
I agree, I was of the opinion that Brooks would be fine as a 2nd option getting paid around what he's getting now, he just too often couldn't come up with the right play when the game was in the balance.

As I've said before watch his highlights his short kicking game is very good that alone will improve our end of sets greatly if nothing else
Also he looks to have time to do things which will also help us to produce pressure for a change. At least give him a few games before you crucify him
I dont mind the idea of an experienced half to guide the youth and bridge the gap until they are ready. I also think Sezer is about as good as we were likely to get So i dont really hate the signing.

The truth is I don't watch enough esl to truly know his capabilities, so certainly happy to give him a go.That does not change the fact that I'm doubtful of his ability to produce anything of substance on the field.

My doubts are due to him being an ageing player who has spent a long time away from the NRL and seemingly unwanted by the UK clubs.

I don't really put much stock in highlight videos for the most part. They are good for assessing physical attributes only in my opinion. Every player with a halfway decent career will have a good highlights reel. A highlights video for example cannot tell if his short kicking game is truly good or simply he has produced some good amongst a whole lot of terrible (not at all saying this is the case). Will that short kicking game hold up in the NRL where he will likely have much less time and space?

I'm more confident he can perform in his mentor role. But even then it is not a role any old experienced player can do. It takes a certain personality type and those that do this well are scarce. I would like to think the club did their research with this before signing him.

not going to get into the hater/fan diatribe but Sezer is what we've needed the last decade.

he's a hard working, high IQ halfback that will get the side where it needs to be on the field and finish our sets well. throws a great pass off both hips, has an elite (watch his Super League tapes) short kicking game and will earn the respect of his teammates in preseason as he's said previously.

the early rounds this year were so tough because we struggled without the presence of a conventional halfback, Sezer is that guy. he didn't play preliminary and grand finals through luck. he will be someone we look back on in a few years and be thankful he walked into the building.

Our halves in 2024 will learn that you can’t win in the NRL without backline weapons, our centres and wingers are just not first grade material. Jahream Bula will be on every other clubs hit list as he gets sick of carrying the offensive workload.

He's on a one year deal on minimal coin. It's one of the smartest recruitment decisions we've made. He's a smarter half than we've had in recent years, and a better kicking game than anyone at the club recently. All he really needs to do is direct traffic and kick to corners and he'll be 10 X better than Brooks or Wakeham

This thread is the perfect example of how long and boring the off season is. How can you hate someone before he’s even played a game for the club?

He’s the player Api demanded they sign. An experienced half who can steer the team around.

He might not be the next Cooper Cronk, but he’ll be a mile better than what we had last year. I like him as a signing, and I liked the way he came across in the Bloke in a Bar interview. No nonsense, mentally tough, experienced. Exactly what we need.

I’m in the fan camp.
I’m with the Bigscreen.

Tito is a fan of the Sezer - giving the opposition Seizures - see what I did there? I can’t wait to tell people!

Tito Santana - marketing genius.

Are we asking the same question of the Fainu’s? We haven’t seen them play. I guess they have years to develop their game. I’ll sit in the give him a go camp but I’d like to see Sullivan get plenty of game time too.

I guess the difference with the Fainu's and Sullivan is... Potential.
We honestly don't know who we are going to get with those two. They could be bombastic halves combo or awful.

Many are saying Sezer has: a good kicking game, good organisation, good defense.
Others are saying he isn't up to superleague standard and has spent most of his time at 5/8.

We will see.

I’m going to put you down as a yes to Sezer.

You have an unbridalled enthusiasm in your response.

That is pretty damning. Wakeham/Smith were fill in's.
Brooks is meant to be a competition first grade half.

I also remeber Brooks/AD getting interviewed. They were asked "so how does the game change with Api at 9 instead of Simpkin?"
The answer "it doesn't change/makes no difference".

That's a reason why were 17th. Maybe not the main reason but BOY that's a disconnect.

^THIS!

100% this. Toa is our top scorer and I feel like he wouldn't make first grade in many teams.

We leak tries everywhere and don't seem to have good combinations/set plays ready to score.

Heck Tim Sheens, where was your playbook in 2023? I saw no clever/crazy Sheens plays. (Honestly even when we lost a game, the plays were worth watching.)

Ah,

What you mean I go on the "yes" side and be down with the Sezer fans... As well as leading the charge with the Sezer Haters....

Now that's trippy...
