Shameful sledging at matches towards players!!!

….........but **the fact remains** that this type of behavior is more evidnet at league than union games.

yes the facts i see before me, and ive seen enough of this sh!t at tigers games to know its happening more than it should. compared to union and even sydney fc games ive attended.

but long live boganism… the excuse for the drunk clown in the crowd making a goose of himself and racially vilifying players.....yeah, sure.

What is up your bum Glebe?

This happens at every sporting fixture (football wise) in this country every weekend. Have you ever been to a live cricket match? You are acting like this is a new trend….

Nothing wrong with some playful banter between teams but a lot of times it seems to be taken too far

I still reckon if a Nine or Fox camers catches someone racially or verbally abusing another fan they should be banned for 5 years the first time and for life the second

If you want to give it to the players thats fine , but their no need to swear or call him a green so and so

I admit I have verballed players before and I am ashamed that I did (Especially seeing the players parents were sitting within 5 metres of me )

Hope that wasn't at your U7s game Happy

No Cunno the wife would knock my block off

It was Clinton Schiskofske just after he got back after the drugs ban I made a rather loud comment about him still being on the juice and they heard me

Wife was still bawling as it was the Magpies v Crushers game the day Princess Di died i was pumped for it as a Maggies win would see them in the Top 8 We got thrashed ,I spent the rest of the game screaming at Paul Langmack to get wider of the ruck and when we left a portion of the crowd started a chant for me to "Go West young man"If only the knew I was heading up to Ipswich (which is most definitely west of Brisbane) :roll

How to win friends and influence people aye Happy, lucky they didn't hit you with an empty juice bottle. Good old langers probably wanted to hog the ball.

I wouldn't say it's a Rugby League issue but just a society issue. Not everyone will have the right up bringing and unfortunately it's those that act the fool that you will hear out of the other 17,000 fans around the stadium.

I have seen it at the A-League, Rugby and AFL and in the middle of the street.

Mate was very frustrated at seeing Wests lose again when I was at a game Supported Wests from 1976 and the firest time I saw us win live was 2003 as a Tiger

You are a tool.
They are not facts, thats your opinion.

Pompous Spanker High School no doubt....I see you excelled

My wife and I abandoned our membership seats on the concourse in front of the Robinson Stand for a few reasons. Mainly because of the dull atmosphere and the abuse directed at Fitzhenry BEFORE the game had even started.
We sit/stand on the hill now where the fans are drinking more beer and in the last two years I am yet to hear Tigers fans sledge Tigers players. On the hill the abuse is targeted at the touchies and the opposition players (except Bryce).
In my opinion alcohol is not the problem. It's the belief, on the part of the rugby league fan that has paid good $ to sit in the grandstand, that they are therefore entitled to swear at their own side.
When the Waratahs play like Parra their fans boo the whole team at games end, not during the game. They also don't sledge their own players.

I fail to see why his opinions are crap. They coincide with my experiences at rugby union games.
Seriously: telling another poster that he is a tool?! Is that not against the rules here?
I reckon Willow, with all his 34 years of life experience, (im 56) is a condescending knob and am told that I can't say that. So how come Ink can get away with calling someone a "tool" and telling someone else to ""boot off" and take their crap opinions with them'?

Well for one thing he (GT) won't stay on message. The original objection was to the sweeping generalisation that RL crowds were more prone to make racist comments based on some perceived analysis of the social economic background of the attendees. To suggest that RU or, lord help us, soccer(!) crowds are more genteel and less racist lacks any factual basis. The key difference, apart from booze levels, is the level of passion the games bring. Any game where the people have a tribal, passionate appeal to a team is going to illicit some elements who go over the top when they attract enough people through the gate. Happens in league, AFL, soccer, union, whatever.

i said they were facts because ive experienced and seen this vile with my own eyes, like other people have mentioned on this thread.

now because of my and other peoples experiences are not documented somewhere like some law they are known as pure fantasies, not facts.

ive seen and heard more racial tripe dished out at league games than other sports ive attended, fact.

im not going to say "in my humble opinion…" because having an opinion only is just that an opinion with baseless facts and experiences.

i never said i was educated at some pompous GPS school unlike what you think, and good work with the sledging here in this thread, looks like the title of this thread may apply to you.

Unfortunately, player abuse and sledging happens at just about every game. As spectators, we may not notice it as it as happening some distance away from where we're sitting, but it does happen….

FTR, every sporting team in the world has moron fans, they're not a unique species to any club. Some have more than others (I.E Souths), but they exist within every club.

Several posts in this thread have been deleted due to people making personal attacks against one another. One member earnt themselves a banning for an unprovoked attack on a member who has not even made a post in this thread.

So I will remind everyone to familairise themselves with forum rules, and I ask that you stick to the topic and discuss it rationally please.

I've attended RL matches at Leichhardt and other venues since the sixties and I think your position is particularly weak. RL fans are generally enthusiastic, earthy and direct, but outright abuse, particularly of the racial kind, is very rare. I've also been involved in Club Rugby since the seventies. One of the reasons that real Rugby people rarely attend Waratahs matches is not just for the fact that prices are absurd, or that the venue is crap, but it's easy to lose your temper with binge drinking teenagers, who treat the match as first base for a big night out, or older patrons who think that Polynesians are some kind of tree dwellers, who have limited intellect and inevitably are the reason for a losing night. I have no idea where you sit, but you must wear earmuffs.

Don't worry about the Waratahs though, if you want a taste of pure racialism, attend a home game of either one of the GPS schools that inhabit Bellevue Hill or North Sydney. You'll have the chance to enjoy the collective charm of moronic Dads who not only know nothing of Rugby, but have little in the way of tolerance for individuals that are not white and Protestant.

You've made some very silly remarks, time to pull stumps mate

I swear at the footy.

Sorry.

It's mostly pretty low level stuff like 'you're sh–'. Never at a Tigers player.

leave them alone, they're just there to hand out business cards

ha, but no I totally agree. May not be as vulgar but a fair level of intolerance and racism abounds in that other rugby code.

One of my pet hates is abusing the opposition. Im no saint and sometimes out of frustration say something derogative. But as rule reckon that their is a big difference between cheering for your own team and cheering against another.

Ive read a few suggest that it is restricted to few socio economic groups or races, I disagree, all groups have bad eggs who behave poorly.

I always tell a story when i was younger, a liqoured up lady who was the mother of the other team dressed in her best designer gear stilletos and all, looking very classy, gave me an almighty spray at half time as i walked off, cant remember all of it but an illiterate dole bludging thug was part of it with a number of expletives included, she than said i was trash and league converts were a horrible for rugby blah, blah, at this point i said it was a bit rich saying i was a bad for rugby given how she was carrying on, at that point she threw a glass of champers on me!
So in response to Glebe tiger it happens every where, that was a Rugby game in the Eastern suburbs

This is exactly why I dont go anymore!!!

So no one has to put up with my swearing haha
