Shannon McDonnell

One thing is for sure WE DO NEED AN **EXPERIENCED**, SOLID, FASTER fullback. Since Hodgson left us, we have been floundering in that position. We do need a SPECIALIST for that position, would Shannon fill that spot, I don't know  :roll :roll

Willow,
What fullback since Hodgson has played better than Gallant?

McKinnon & Brown.

There's a reason why he's not playing for the Cowgirls at the moment, the fact that he can't get a start over an aging Matt Bowen who is playing on one knee speaks volumes of his capability, despite having an obvious advantage on him in speed, which some seem to think is the only prerequisite of a good fullback?

I'm sure there's some highlight reels of Fitzy or Ryan on Youtube that would look good too.

CB I would take Bowen on one knee at the moment get 2 years out of him and bring Tedesco in then

Wade McKinnon & Mitch Brown ??????????

Show me video of these blokes playing for the Wests Tigers scoroing 100 metre tries from nothing !!!

Gallant is 10000000000000000000000 times safer than these blokes as well.

The reason why he is not playing now is because he has had groin surgery.

Before McKinnon was signed to the Wests Tigers the Fonz rang Gallant to come back but he would not be released.

Show me video of what McKinnon and Brown have done at WT and I will blitz your mind with Gallant footage.

why is everyone so critical of Gallant? regardless of what you think the guy was deadly when he was at fullback. He carved teams up.I can remember games where he destroyed teams.1 game in particular against the Cowboys, and if it wasn't for his injury the tigers could have won the comp in 09.When he was injured it disrupted the balance of the team, which to that point had been on a roll. His injury resulted in Lui coming in before he was ready and Moltzen moving to fullback and they struggled to win another game. They didn't have the spark

Exactly !! Our '09 season collapsed whed Mighty Mouse broke his leg.

Willow and CB dont know too much about footy. Thats ok.

He was capable enough, but I don't see him as a regular first grader. Teams weren't exactly queuing up to sign him before he went to the Cowboys, and that was after press reports about how little money he was on.

I don't think he is the answer to our problems.

Gallant isnt a bad option. Better than McDonnell. Maybe he could be part of the player trade with the tigers player linked to a club north of the border. (lui) Or it may be the Broncos. Gerard Beale is not contracted for next season…

Since leaving Gallant has had one good game from what I viewed and has been in reggies alot though currently injured.

We desperatley need the right mix of size, speed, skill and aggression at the back.

Gallant has heart and was suited to the Tigers style of two seasons ago but honestly the way of the future is your fullbacks and wingers making meterage from kick returns against a line of defence.

I would never doubt Shannons ability of heart but I do question the place of him in the Tigers future.

Oh and if we decided we wanted a small livewire fullback I would be much more inclined to throw money at the Raiders young Massey

So you'd attribute that lapse in success to Gallant being injured and not a key player in the halves in Moltzen being moved? From what I recall Farah was blistering in '09, and carried that whole team on an injured back. Being able to run onto a ball at speed or getting in Choc Watmoughs way so that so that he trips over you doesn't necessarily correlate with being skillful.

Or perhaps because I played fullback and know what's to be expected of the position?

I reckon Karlmichael Hunt and Folua will sick of rules by season end .they would go okay in our backline

I thought Gallant was the "best"of a very average bunch of fullbacks since Hodgo's departure-he had genuine speed, tried hard in defence(but still was run over the top by larger players),& demonstrated courage under the high ball.
If yr going to win a premiership, you need someone in the no 1 jersey who is much more than just a fringe 1st grader,& thats what Gallant & McDonnell are.
McKinnon was better than "fringe"several years ago,but no longer
Brown is safe but unspectacular,& Moltzen at f/b is a disaster.
So we are where we are.
Either Mullaney or a .n.other come through the ranks & deliver,or we buy someone.
The way were going this season (which is very quickly being written off),Id try Mullaney for the next half dozen games & see once & for all whether he is up to it
If not,and/or if this team miraculously turns around 2011, Brown is the most proven of the current bunch & I certainly wouldnt be buying back any of our f/b discards who struggled to entrench the 1 jersey both at Tigers & their ultimate destination

Gallant > McKinnon and probably Brown.
Gallant probably about equal or a little better than McDonnell.
Hodgo > than all of them by a huge margin.

We need a fullback comparable to Hodgo. Gallant in my opinion isn't good enough even though he is better than every option tried since Hodgo left.
