Sharks NRL recruit Fifita bares his claws

Imposing Cronulla recruit Andrew Fifita can't wait for the NRL season to start so he can show Wests Tigers' coach Tim Sheens and Tigers fans exactly what they're missing out on.

Fifita was one of the victims of the Tigers' pursuit of New Zealand international Adam Blair last year, as he was offloaded along with veteran prop Bryce Gibbs to the Sharks to make way for Blair and his salary.

The decision didn't sit well with Gibbs and Fifita at the time, but the 22-year-old is delighted in his new surrounds in the shire and desperate to repay the Sharks for the faith shown in him by helping defeat the Tigers on their home turf in round one on March 4.

Intensifying Fifita's motivation is Sheens' decision to omit the Indigenous All Stars representative during the club's finals run last year.

"Yeah (I have a point to prove)," Fifita told reporters on Thursday.

"Not playing the last few rounds and all that. I just want to get out there in front of their crowd - that's going to be the biggest thing - and represent the club.

"I'm loving the Sharks, every bit of it. I can't wait to get out there and show them what they're missing out on.

"They chose better players last year towards the end of last year for their semi-finals teams and I guess I wasn't one of them.

"I'm going to show them how good I can possibly be and what they missed out, and what I could've done in the finals for them.

"I always loved Leichhardt (Oval) - it was my favourite field. To play first round there … when I got the call, I was just excited.

"It made me strive even harder through pre-season, just thinking about round one.

"Through the All Stars game, I was just praying I didn't get injured. I'm ready to rock and roll for the Cronulla Sharks."

But Fifita played down talk that he would target Blair in the season-opening clash, moving away from comments last year when he said he challenged the former Melbourne star to run at him when they clashed on the field.

"Everyone's (talking) about this blow up with Adam Blair," he said.

"I don't mind the bloke. He's a really good bloke, but football is football. It happens.

"Whoever gets in your way is going to come. My job is (defending) the middle, whoever comes through the middle that's what is going to happen."

Bring it on Fifita.

Fifita will get smashed.

Wests Tigers know every move he has, i can not see him coming up with new stuff since he left us.

He has just put a massive target on himself. :crazy

LAWL!! :roll

80% of the article is talking about how much he loved the tigers, and how he loves Leichhardt, and his bitterness from last year….

For all his talk, only **one single line** about the sharks - _**"I'm loving the Sharks, every bit of it. I can't wait to get out there and show them what they're missing out on."**_ The rest of it is rhetoric, and chest beating.

Hope he realises that after the first game against the Tigers there are 25 more rounds....

I wonder if Leichhardt Oval will still be his "favourite field" after he runs out there for the opposition team!

Umm ok, so Cronulla are once again showing their lack of professionalism by letting this sort of thing be printed.

No wonder they're more bottom feeding cat fish than man eating sharks in the rugby league world!!

:blah :blah :blah :blah :blah :blah :blah :blah

What a tosser! He is all talk…... I remember seeing him out one day and he was hanging around 14 year old kids with white addias pants and hats on backwards... I say no more!

I wouldn't be so quick to rubbish him. He has alot to offer and I think he just got a few too many wraps too early and it went to his head a bit. Not a good thing around Sheens.

If he works hard at just being a team player and doing his job, rather than trying to be a superstar I really do think he'll go a long way. You can't deny he has some good skills and good speed for a big man. He looks like he might have gained a few kegs too. Once he matures as a professional footballer I think he will be one of the best props in the game.

He'll play Origin within 3 years. Maybe even this year if the Sharkies start well.

problem with Fifita is that he is not consistant enough. he does have some great games in him but to often he goes missing and needs to learn how to run straight and not crab across field. i hope he does ok at the gummys but just not against us. Gibbs is another story as i really would have liked to have kept him.

And you'll be praying for it again Fifi.

Seriously, what footballer admits to worrying about being injured during a match?

Brent Tate - although who can blame him.

I think these comments show some maturity. If he wants to take something out of last year, it should be a "prove them wrong" mentality, and not the "I'm gonna blame everyone but myself" stuff.

He got a big future, but only he can decide whether he will be the next big thing or just another hot headed young forward who wasted his potential.

There is alot of stories about this bloke… He gets more headlines than Thurston, Marshall & Gallen. I bet those boys hope one day they will be as good as him?! :crazy

Who do they have… Gibbs, Green, Ross & Fifita?

You would think that with there backrow who can go 80 minutes, they would have a minimum of 4 Props per game?!

I'll bet Inglis will be sweating bullets in the All-Stars match again next year.

Fifita will have a fine game against us. He is a better player than Groat and Bell. He is more dangerous than Woods.

He will have a fine debut.

Those of you who are rubbishing him are fools. Watsh his hit ups in the All Stars game. They were straight, hard and all quality.

If he played for us in the Semi's we would not have lost against the Warriors and we would have smashed Melbourne in Melbourne.

Sheens lost us the comp again last year with his selections.

Our wingers will tackle him every time
