Sheens a Poor Judge of Forward Talent???

I ask myself how good a talent scout is Tim Sheens?…over the years he has let go forwards...props in particular...who have gone on to excel and become very good players...Ryan Tandy, Ray Cashmere, Jeff Lima, Ryan Hoffman(2nd row) to name a few...look at these players now Allm of us would love to have them playing in our colours in a heart beat...but Sheens let them go, when we could've kept them for a pittance....

I think he believes that basic, no-nonsense, metre eating props have no place whatsoever in the modern game.
Unfortunately he's completely wrong.

(although I don;t think you can blame him for Hoffman)

Alexi…Hoffman left because of his father's relationship with Craig Bellamy...

And he didn't go for 'a pittance'...he was paid a small fortune.

Fancy another thread on how bad Sheens is.Gee thats original.

All players leave for a reason, sometimes its money sometimes its location or just a change of scenery to resarect there careers.

I dont see how tandy could be on that list.

He plays what 4 or 5 games for the storm and we made a bad decision letting him go cmon.

What these 3 clubs and theie respective coaches musnt have a idea either.

Years Team Pld T G FG P
2003 St. George Illawarra Dragons 3 0 0 0 0
2003 South Sydney Rabbitohs 3 0 0 0 0
2007 Hull KR 12 2 0 0 8

Welcome to have a opinion but i hope you didnt think about this thread for very long.

 Sheens is a poor judge of forward talent…....that will do me.......

Ok .......Let's have a look.......Tandy, Lima and Cashman the 3 Props Sheens let go........ yet here's the one's we retained or identified>>>>>>>>>Galloway, Gibbs. Payten, Gower, Schirnack we have on our books... then there is Fafita x2, Woods, Davidson (get well soon) Pulu coming through...

So really in 7 years he let go 3.........Hey you forgot Ryan O'hara he took out 4 awards for the Celtic Crusaders including Player of the Year..........

Sheens has identified and developed more forward talent than I've had hot breakfasts....but continue it never get boring....

Lima was from all reports a bit of a psycopath when he left and to be fair we won the premiership the year after.
Cashmere was unlucky because he came good at the end of 2005 and we had spent a lot of players by then for 2006.
Hoffman….well what can you do.

I think with props you get lucky on development, form and injuries.
Pure class props are rare.

You left off Saffy

Tandy, Saffy, Cashmere are journeymen (although Cahmere put in). Who would they displace from our pack? Lima left with bad attitude and to HIS credit he seems to have turned it around. Hoffman was never part of the WT system and by all accounts we never really had an opportunity to keep him.

I thought of the anti sheens brigade a couple of days ago when I heard an interview with Ruben Wiki. He was talking about how Sheens had developed him from a Centre into backrow and them finally a prop. Imagine the bleating that would have happened if that had happened here and now. Turned him into one of the best forwards ever in the game.

Hit the nail on the head. Sheens is hardly a poor judge of forward talent.

Out of the bunch on your list only Galloway is worthy and or NRL standard..the others are overrated or unproven..I mean Gibbs the serial penalty offender - get real and Payten (I'm really a half) are beyond their peak or never reached it!…They should go off to the ERL for mine and free up some $$. Oh..yeah and thanks for mentioning O'Hara...another great recruitment of a prop...

O'Hara…...what a joke turned out...took up heaps of dough and produced diddly squat!...So he took out 4 awards for the Crusaders...woppie...their standard is below that of the State Cup.

What about how he has moulded our current forwards Galloway into a feared wrecking ball… Gibbs into one of the fittest hardest working props in the comp... Heighnington from a decenct bench player to a genuine starter...

I mean come on you can't keep everyone & you or I don't know how many chances some of those blokes that have left had or what... so hey back off...

OK Tiger AL…I will...was just itching to start a topic as I hadn't done one for a while...I'll go back into hibernation.

Hoffman left the club BEFORE Sheens came. He had already verbally agreed to join the Storm before Sheens signed a contract with us. I remember as I can recall Sheens discussing the signing of Farah, Fulton Gibbs etc. from the cubs and saying they didn't want to lose any more players like Hoffman.

Sheens is hardly a poor judge of players (except when it comes to John Morris). I think he's a very good coach, I just happen to believe we needed a fresh change at the end of 07.

Your serious aren't you about Sheens and his lack of identifying forward talent…. Free up some dollars for who..I wouldn't be counting on Tandy or Cashmere to win me a comp....

So we should have kept them and got rid of Gibbs and Payten.....and Sheens has problems......the rest are unproven......Yes true...... but isn't this about his lack of identifying forward talent......Well the Fafita's, Woods, Davidson, Pulu have talent to burn....I wont even go into the other youngsters idenitified by the Wests Tigers comming next year....

O'Hara......what a joke turned out...took up heaps of dough and produced diddly squat!...So he took out 4 awards for the Crusaders...woppie...their standard is below that of the State Cup.

Are you trying to contradict yourself here or what...........O'Hara is gone isn't he....he is another prop Sheens let go,,,

BTW the only one decent on your list is Lima.....I hear a rumour he might be on the way back...........

i think sheens can realize plenty of talent. Especially in the forwards
just needs to work on player positions

and regarding gibbs, might be a hard running prop but really needs to get his idiot penalties out of the way. Hopefully with this new big forward pack, sheens will have to balls to drop him to state cup one game if he continues!

Yep, Hoffman was interviewed on the BSB on Tuesday or Wednesday morning and he said it was his decision to sign with Melbourne. He grew up in Campbelltown and actually wanted to get away from the area to give himself a chance to grow and become a man. So we definitely didn't "let him go" because he never wanted to stay.

Funny thread! As if Sheens is a Poor Judge of Foward talent  . Most of the players mentioned left on there on crusade, also have a look at the fowards we have coming through and surely we will have to let one or two go over the coming years and who knows when they will come of age as a player? They could be playing there best footy now and be ordinary next season or have a blinder of a season in 2013 who knows. Thats my point of view any who.
