Sheens: Complacency won't be an issue

Complacency won’t be an issue for Wests Tigers in coming weeks says Head Coach Tim Sheens as the side looks to finish as high as it can heading into the Telstra Premiership finals.

Sheens says the fact the side remains in eighth place after four successive wins indicates his players can’t take the foot off the accelerator against teams lower than them on the ladder.

Wests Tigers players and coaching staff have used a four day camp in Kiama to discuss what lies ahead in coming weeks, starting with Penrith at Centrebet Stadium this Friday night.

Sheens has named Mitch Brown at centre to replace the injured Chris Lawrence with Tim Moltzen retaining the full-back duties.

“The Cowboys win away, Manly win away and the St George Illawarra win have been a bonus for us in many ways from the point of view what people thought but from within the group, we were confident of winning the games,’’ Sheens said.

“The fact that we are eighth still even after the last 4 wins shows you we are no certainties. If we were running fourth at this point it might be a little different but we just can’t afford to falter.

“We are not even thinking outside this week’s game.

“Some of the sacrifices some of the boys are going to make, some of the intensity we need to bring into our training and to make sure we keep our heads down and don’t read too much into the papers. Don’t be counting on someone winning this weekend or someone getting beat to make it easier for us. We have just got to focus on each game and win 4 games.

“I’m not worried about what other teams are doing. We are chasing the 2 points.

“You just don’t know what is going to happen. We have got to turn the focus internally on ourselves and make sure we are preparing as best as we can.”

I hope the fellas feel the same way, playing the way we have over the last four weeks, we should rightfully towel the Pamfers up and if we don't win convincingly, we need to ask questions.

Sheens, Bennett and Bellamy - In a class of their own and we got one.

The great man is in control.
