Sheens interview on Talkinsport

In case you missed it last night, Sheens was on for a good 10min and the interview is summed up as follows:

- Good money was offered to Groate, Fifita and Woods from other clubs and the Tigers could only afford to keep 2 of them. Whether it was a good or bad decision will be known in the next year or 2 but he expects all 3 to have good futures
- The other players to leave have been offered upgraded contracts by other clubs and the salary cap is the primary reason the players are leaving
- He believes there is a good crop of juniors in the club and they need to be provided with a career path but unfortunately tough decisions have to be made on who to keep and let go
- The Tigers have made it a policy to introduce a quality player every year or so and Blair is a player the club targeted and is considered one of the best in his respective position
- Expects Blair to have the same impact as what Ellis and to some extent Tuqiri have had on the club
- Andrew Ryan's name was raised during a club meeting as he is a senior player who they targeted to replace Payten, which he believes is essential in a club particularly with the extent of juniors around
- Cross's name was also mentioned along with other players during the club meeting
- Was happy with the performance against the Cowboys and is hoping to build on the foundations of that game

Most of the remaining discussion has been repeated in other interviews but overall his demeanour was very composed and assured. A quality coach.

To be able to maintain control and the respect of the changeroom over such a prolonged period is the sign of a good coach. We are lucky to have him.

Hope he said no to Cross, when he left Easts I would have took him,but not now.

wish i heard it, makes sense to me…..

With the heap of props we have coming through, i can understand the logic

I wish we kept Moltzen, i like him, but keep them all

With respect to Cross 851, he said you only have to be seen having a coffee with someone and the press are already printing that the player is signed. He gave the impression that Cross and Ryan are not coming.

He also advised that we were tight with respect to the salary cap. We have put out money into Groat and Woods and he is hopeful that they will be quality first graders.

He stated that our defence has been good all year, and he had highlighted that as our weakness in the past. Our attack has suffered due to injuries and other issues but now that we are getting players back he is hopeful that that will come together. He was glad that we controlled the game against the Cowboys.

He sounded more confident than I am!

We have had plenty of threads already dominated by opinions of Moltzen, lets not let this one deviate from the topic and degenerate into another melee about him.

Interesting, well, we will see, but the way Fifita has been going over the last couple of months, it might have been a good decision.

It would be interesting to see what the decision came down to. Training attitude? Fifita was offered more than the others?

Would have been a tough call. Fifita definitely adds some aggression to our pack, but that I suppose will be replaced by Blair.

I didn't hear it, thanks for the summary.
All sounds fairly reasonable.
Groat and Woods would have been cheaper than Fifita. I would have liked to keep him, but I tend to think the right choices were made.

Waiting to hear from Balmain Bug…........

it will be worse decisons ever, everyone is lying, sheens is an idiot, Humprhries is a combination of Pol Pot and Adolf Hittler etc etc

I only caught the tail end of the interview on the way to the fish and chip shop.

Interesting that Groat was a country boy bought to St Gregs on a scholarship

Thanks for the rundown of the interview. All seems to make sense. Not sure about Cross, but then again I didn't think Lote would bring anything to the club and I was wrong there!

shame we cant do that to Forum members either, pack their bags and send them on their way… Rather then no ticker, more so they have no brains..

I dont think you are in a position to say someone has no ticker, especially at his age and coming back from a full knee reco. Two years ago he was the toast of the Tigerland, and set to be the player to watch and everyone wanted him at 7... now he comes back and only half way through the season, keyboard warriors like your self call for his head.. PMSL..

Tell me einstein, why were you not criticising benji for the periods where he was a poor defender and played with little confidence?

He's from Michael Henderson, David Milne, Ben Jeffrey, Shaun Spence and to a lesser extent A and D Fifita country - Griffith (well, Rankin's Springs originally).

Seems like the management knows what direction they are going in to me. I'm happy with their expert judgements when they know the facts, as I wouldn't know 1% of what goes on behind closed doors at the club.

Regardless, I remain a Tiger supporter. As long as we are running around and I have something to watch, I'm happy.

We could have been Newtown or Norths, remember that!

It gets me quite angry when people question an NRL players ticker, or call them soft and alike.

Anyone with no heart gets found out well before NRL level. Every bloke that plays in the NRL, has heart, and puts his body through all sorts of stuff.
