wouldnt surprise me is sheens makes Lui 6 and Benji 7, maybe wrong but got a feeling.

There is no way he'll swap the numbers again. It will create a media storm and put more pressure on Marshall. That's the exact reason he swapped to #6 last year.

Marshall has been playing halfback even with #6 on his back anyway, the numbers don't mean anything.

I was thinking the same thing. Marshall might play half back in everything other than name (well number) but I don't think we'll ever see him wearing a WT jumper with 7 on it again.

Lui looked good once again against crap opposition in the Sharks. Had a fairly decent game yesterday but was not outright targetted in defence by Stuart's instructions. Still got trapped too many times with the ball, but luckily for him he was able to offload it a few more times this week. Tends to hold the ball too long.

Agree.

This is why I fear the Fonz will have Benji at 1st receiver to give Lui more time on his hands at a 5/8 position. This will be a disaster as well. Allthough I agree Lui needs to be at 5/8, Benji needs to be wider than a halfback position also.

Fonz's best option is Moltzen at 7 and Bagz at 6 but we all know he will not do that. So Lui will be there somewhere but what will the Fonz do to iron out his problems? Hasler will be ready with a game plan for Watmough, Stewart and Co to put enormous pressure on Lui.

I cant wait till kick off. There are many questions that should be answered at the end of that 80 minutes. I just hope the Fonz is sensible about it all. :sunglasses:

Robert Lui halfback, Lote Tuqiri on wing for Tigers
By Patrick Caruana From: AAP March 01, 2010 12:00AM

WESTS Tigers coach Tim Sheens says young gun Robbie Lui will start the NRL season alongside Benji Marshall in the halves, with Lote Tuqiri to make his NRL comeback on the wing.

Lui, who turned 20 last week, has done enough in the Tigers' trials campaign to convince Sheens he should wear the number seven jersey when they open their season against Manly on March 15.

Lui, last year's Toyota Cup five-eighth of the year, starred as the Tigers comfortably downed Cronulla 36-12 in a trial at Gosford on Saturday night.

Sheens said Lui's performances meant he was likely to edge out Tuqiri and fellow young gun Tim Molten in the halves.

"The kid stepped up again," Sheens said.

"At the moment, I'd be looking at Timmy Moltzen at one (fullback), Robbie Lui and Marshall in the halves,

"That'd be the logical thing. That's probably where were going to go initially.

"I know what I'm going to do for game one pretty well."

Asked whether Tuqiri, who is yet to return from a stint of club rugby with English side Leicester, would likely make his comeback on the wing when he returns, Sheens replied "yes".

The Tigers have struggled to find a permanent halfback since premiership captain Scott Prince left for the Gold Coast.

Despite the lop-sided scoreline at Gosford, Sheens was hardly full of praise for his side, who are out to make the finals for the first time since 2005.

"We started poorly, and if they had have been stronger with the ball in hand, we would have been in a lot of trouble," he said.

"We need to do a fair bit more before we're happy.

"But we got through it without injury and we won it strongly."

I would hope then Bug…when we come out all fired up and smash the Manly scum with Lui at 7 ,,,,,,you will be man enough to say Sheens was ..........Coorrrreeectamundo!!!!!!

I have been a massive Lui critic from the get go. I was silenced on Saturday afternoon.

My stand is still that Moltzen should be half back, because he played a solid game too. Lui is a better 5/8 and that showed on saturday. Lui should be back up. Its clear now he will be picked for round 1 - and he should be under alot of pressure to perform.

We cant afford too much time to let a combination develop in a competition that is going to be tight all the way, especially when we have one that we already know exists, between Moltzen and Marshall. The fact that they live together as well must help them understand each other on the field. So if Lui doesnt perform inside the first 3 games, he should be culled.

Is 3 games too much, or i am not giving him enough time? Considering our lack of finals football and close finishes in recent seasons, i think i am on point here…

I have been advocating support for Lui should the coach give him the nod. I am a massive Moltzen fan, but think he has a lot of potential at 1 as well. I think 3 games is a suitable amount of time to give Lui the no.7 to see if he performs. If he fails, I would like to see him in State Cup, and I would not like to see tigers supporters turn on him and say he is useless.

lui and moltzen work great in the halves

moltzen and marshall work great in the halves

lui and marshall DONT work great in the halves

Yea before the season even starts lets slam this potential halves pairing and not give it time to develop. Deadset do people remember Moltzens first half a dozen games in first grade? He was timid, prone to errors and looked out of his depth, then last eyar he exploded to the point where most people would list him as one of our most valuable assets.

Im not saying that 7.Lui 6.Benji is the answer. However i am willing to give them a chance to gel and form a good combination.

I agree "the scene".
These people get paid thousands to do their job and here we are giving them advice.
😕

Let's just roll with the side that they select and go from there.
If Lui read anything from this forum he would be looking at a get out clause in his contract due to the fact that the supporters have no faith in him before he gets a chance to prove himself.

Turn it up! Let the experts do what they are being paid to do. has anyone else in this forum won 4 premierships and coached for over 600 matches???

Whilst you are right, ask yourself, would any other coach still have a job after persisting with Fitzhenry in the halves for so long, then doing likewise with Morris, the answer is no they wouldnt, that team should have made more than 1 finals appearnce since 2004.
So it cuts both ways,Tim is here now,so lets hope he has learned from his mistakes, even if he won't admit he made any.

The thing here is that the people calling for Moltz in Half, aren't naming the fullback to replace him. Or if they are, it doesn't seem to come into their argument. Brown dropped a shocking ball when playing number 1 on the weekend and I for one, do not want him at the back. The guy barely held down his fullback position in a injury riddled team at the bottom of the table.

If we had Gallant, then yes. Put Moltz in Half and leave Lui in NYC. But we don't! Moltz, Lui and Benji all on the field in the 1 ,7 & 6 is the best combination.

We can't write off Lui at 7 yet either, it was **1 trial** game and he didn't set the world on fire, but it wasn't' a terrible game! Yes, he played awesome at 6, but with what he did that game, I can't see how people think his game doesn't have enough depth to be able to play 7?

He really is going to make a lot of people eat their words.

Lui should not go back to NYC regardless. Let him hone his craft for one of our State Cup sides. Several of last years NYC players will quite readily tell you they have learnt as much, if not more, from their State Cup trials than they did from NYC

I wouldn't have minded seeing Taumata trialled at fullback, but that never happened,I think with his size and pace he could have been an X factor.

I'm just happy he is willing to give Lui a go and we all know he's on borrowed time as I'm certain Sheens will revert to using Moltzen if Lui has troubles.

Its a bloody long season, we need options across the park. Sheens has to start somewhere, so I'm in full support of this combination knowing a change can be as soon as a week.

Lui has the talent, he biggest hurdle is going to be adjusting to prodimantly playing right side imo.
