TIM Sheens has been re-appointed as Kangaroos coach until after next year's World Cup, but his future at Wests Tigers remains unresolved.

The Australian Rugby League Commission will today rubber-stamp Sheens as Roos coach for another 12 months after 17 wins from 18 Tests.

With his role as the Australian coach ratified, attention will switch to Sheens' stand-off with Wests Tigers, where he was sacked as head coach in September with two years remaining on his deal.

Sheens refuses to discuss the situation at the Tigers, where new coach Mick Potter has taken over and set about implementing a hardline regime.

For the time being, Sheens said his sole focus will be the Australian role and trying to win back the World Cup won by New Zealand in 2008.

"I'm happy to have been re-appointed again. I really enjoy the role and working with the players and to get the opportunity to try to win back the title of world champions is something that's been important to all of us for quite a while," Sheens said.

"I'm not prepared to talk about the Tigers, but on the Australian role, it's going to be a huge year with a tour to the UK for the World Cup at the end of next year and it's a challenge everyone is excited about. I've always said it's a huge honour to be appointed the Australian coach."

Australia will play a one-off Test against New Zealand in Canberra in April.

NRL general manager of league integration and game development, Andrew Hill, extended Sheens' tenure.

"In the past, the Australian coach did the same as the players and just turned up in camp. Now he will be able to help increase the profile of the Kangaroos, which is important in a World Cup year," Hill said.

"Whilst the position is not full-time, Tim will also play a greater role in helping develop pathways for our Junior Kangaroos, Australian Schoolboys and emerging Origin teams.

"Tim and the playing group are eager to regain the World Cup from New Zealand and having Tim's involvement with the high performance pathways will ensure our team is well prepared."

I see - good enough to coach Australia but not good enough to coach the Tigers, eh? Hard to argue with 17 wins from 18 at the international level. I hope we don't end up missing him.

Anyone know anything specific about Potter's 'hardline regime'? I hope there is no face slapping involved - a bit 1970s. I also hope Tim's relationship with the Tigers is sorted out soon, as I'm afraid it can only cause disruption if he hangs around at all, but we ain't got the cash to get rid of him.

always thought he would make a good rep coach… however of late, failing to find reasons for my own hypothesis

lol Snoddy .
sheensie isnt a bad coach ,,he just overstayed his time at the Tigers.
Sheens would probably be in the top 4 of Nrl coaches.

LMAO!
Based on what??
Certainly not his win/loss record…or his finals appearance record

Bottom four more like it...nice trolling

This is going to go on forever…

If he wants his money, he can be drip fed over the next two years while he's paid to scrub out the dungeon at LO. No lump sum payouts.

He seems to have taken on a lot of extra work with his re-appointment. I would have thought this would prevent him performing his (nominally) full time duties at WT. I can't understand how he can expect to be continued to be paid a wage reflecting a FT commitment at WT and do all this other work. WT should ask him to report to work during his normal hours and he can paint witch's hats or choreograph the cheerleaders routines. At the moment he seems to want the best of both worlds - either he expects to be paid by the WT and makes himself available or he takes up additional work and foregoes part or all of his salary.

I doubt his contract has an addendum such as 'Any other duties as directed' to Duties: Head NRL Coach Wests Tigers RLFC

Youd think Potter now being "Head Coach" would nullify anything in Sheens contract re: duties

Remember, he was offered a specific position at WTs

Its a bloody mess

If the WT are to pay out Sheens and he expects the full amount, then surely the WT can make him sit out and not be available to other clubs before Nov 2014\. No ones bigger than the club, Timbo.

Looks like Sheens is still pouting and has his head in the sand. He needs to grow up, make a decision one way or another and move on.

That's exactly what I mean, Ink, he refuses to talk about it every time! I don't know if it's just the way they are written, but in every article I've read about this Sheens' comments give off the same 'I've still got the poops and I don't want to talk about it' vibe. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but his demeanor, as always, seems arrogant and defensive to me. If it wasn't still bugging him and he had made a decision on his future, he would be able to speak about it, like a normal adult, by now I reckon.

My bet the matter is now in the hands of the Lawyers and both parties have been told..don't say anything as it may jeopardise your case..and if you look at what sheens/humphrys/troden have done it is…say nothing
