Wasn't he already coming? His role has changed from director of football performance to director of football? What is the "news" part of this story?

I agree . Thought it was a done deal months ago .
Imagine the flak if Sheens opted not to sign

So Sheens decided back in the day he wanted all his stars to play for BRET and not Wests in reggies due to training location. South west Sydney then decided Bugger tigers and that hasn’t changed.

Not really
Bret and first grade often trained together @ concord and he wanted any first grader not in the main squad all together in Reggie's not split between Wests/bret

300k a year for 3 years.

??

That seems quite low?

That seems a bit extreme! Could of paid Maguire out , I am expecting big things next season for that amount of money from Sheens.

For someone in charge of the coaching department $300k a year is pretty good value imo.

Tim Sheens has inked a three-year, $1 million deal in a bid to revive the embattled club he steered to an inaugural premiership.

News Corp can reveal Sheens formally agreed terms with Tigers officials on Tuesday night to return as director of football, presiding over the front office to help coach Michael Maguire bring success back to Concord.

If anyone understands the DNA of the joint-venture club, it is Sheens, who constructed the roster, headlined by Benji Marshall and Scott Prince, that delivered the Wests Tigers’ maiden title in 2005.

Now, at age 70, Sheens is back to spearhead a new era for the Tigers following a politically-charged 2021 campaign that almost led to the sacking of Maguire as part of an end-of-season internal review.

Currently in quarantine in England, where he served at Salford and Widnes, Sheens is poised to return to Australia within seven days after signing a deal to link with the Tigers until the end of 2024.

The deal is worth more than $300,000 a season and caps a Concord resurrection for Sheens, enshrined as the Wests Tigers’ most successful coach after his decade-long stint between 2003-12.

Sheens has been in talks with the Tigers for some time but had delayed signing the deal until club bosses worked out exactly how his role would operate and where he would sit in the official pecking order.

His decision to finally put pen to paper as football boss could mean a shake-up of a football department which has already cut a swathe through its coaching staff.

Picture: NRL Images Sheens’ signature should also pave the way for the club to finalise their coaching staff and sign new players to spearhead a finals fightback in 2022.

The club has been conducting interviews with potential assistants to Maguire in recent weeks - among the candidates are former premiership-winner Shane Flanagan and ex-Sydney Roosters assistant Nathan Cayless.

The club is also in the process of strengthening their roster. They recently signed former Gold Coast Titans utility Tyrone Peachey but still have more than $1 million to spend for next year.

Maguire is adamant he is the coach to engineer a new era of success for the Tigers and Sheens will be a valuable sounding board for the former Souths premiership mentor.

“This club well and truly has a future in the NRL,” Maguire told News Corp in July.

“Look at Penrith. It took them a while to establish themselves as a premiership contender but they had to pull things apart at the top end to create opportunities for their young players to come through.

“We are building a $65 million high-performance centre that will be finished in January so it will be state of the art. Talk of relocating the club is over the top. People don’t realise how big this club can be.

“At Souths, we hadn’t won a premiership for 43 years and we broke that drought.

“We have two foundation clubs in Balmain and Wests and when things do rise at the Tigers, we will get enormous momentum.

The Tigers suffered some heavy defeats in 2021 - but Maguire sees light at the end of the tunnel. Picture: Getty “I want to set the club up in a way that the Tigers can succeed long term, rather than band-aid solutions and quick fixes.

“I understand we are all judged by what happens on the field, which is fair enough, but I’m determined to build the right foundations so the Tigers can prosper as a club.

“I am enjoying it, but I’ll be honest: this has been the toughest project of changing of a team I’ve experienced. I’ve had to learn a heap around management of the salary cap and its impact on a club.

“I am working hard on developing a stronger squad and that means getting the right people with the right character and the right desires to want to take the club further up the ladder.”

Hopefully Mr Sheens can polish up this rusty tigers side 👓

*With apologies to the original jingle:*

Oh Mr Sheens, oh Mr Sheens
Now's the time to fix up this dud team
From the board room to the chair
There's Wood Ducks everywhere
Wax and polish but don't trust them Mr Sheens

He's sitting above Hartigan now. Interesting, and why did WT announce his signing months ago if he only just signed this week.
Save the click. Referring to Sheens.

The pathways gig always seemed a bit strange to me, we have just put Mathew Betsey into the Head of Pathways role so saw it as a strange move to put Sheens int there as well. Betsey is highly regarded so will be interesting to see how he goes transitioning to League. Kimmorley went for the Head of Pathways role as well but missed out so we offered him a job working under Betsey. I think these 2 will be great for strengthening the pathways at the club.

Its probably the most important area at the moment ...hope this Betsey bloke than no one had even heard of until he joined the Tigers is the man for the job .......yeah know he was part of CA ....but Australian Cricket doesn't need to much help with pathways doesn't ...not like it has 16 more highly rated teams to deal with
