Shonky ref's

OK in 2015 and 2016, there were 233 home sides. Home teams won the penalty count 130 times = 55.79% of the time.

Of those matches, Tigers have had 15 home games and won the penalty count 4 times = 26.67%

So definitely, we don't get a home ground penalty advantage consistent with the NRL average. Whether that is ref predetermination or just general poor discipline I can't say.

We have won 4 penalty counts in 15 home games, FMD that is even worse than I thought . Poor discipline doesn't explain that IMO. We are no worse in that area than most other sides, that is a pretty damning statistic.

^ it's poor discipline. We have always fielded teams who struggle defensively. Therefore we try to slow the play the ball down and stuff it up a lot.

Not into bagging refs just for the sake of it, but when it is warranted they need to be called to account for their poor performances . Watch the last 40 or so minutes of the Newcastle/Storm game and honestly say Melbourne weren't gifted a red carpet stroll to victory. If it wasn't for Hometown Henry Perenara and his inept partner in crime there is no way they win that match. I just wish we were afforded that same bias in our home matches. It would be more than handy for the extra 3 or 4 wins it would result in.
The refereeing is ####, there is no 2 ways about it.
There is no way we will win the count up in Newcastle next week- if you can bet on it with some betting agency then plonk a motza on it.

I totally agree on that game. I was giving Perenium a serve with my mates - and lo he penalises Newcastle out of thew match.

Yes thats true but I must say, almost 100% of penalties against us are warranted. We lay all over the tackled player in the ruck and we are good for quite a few high shots per game. Our markers are never square and we panic when we get teams trapped down their own end and rush up too quick….Very ill disciplined side, always have been.

!00% right…we are a very dumb side, we allowed the grub to bait us last night and he got us hook line and sinker. Every penalty last night against was warranted. Okay it seemed like the Sharks should have been blown up a few times, but it was not the ref who lost the game for us, it was total lack of discipline and it is the same week after week, year after year.....They just do not get it

I think losing 11 out of 15 penalty counts at home is more than just poor discipline, a lot of it in my opinion is referee bias against us.

I have said many times NRL referees have more influence over results than just about any other sport. The piggy back that teams get from repeat sets in our game is huge.

For me yes we hold teams down in the ruck every team does but we get penalised more for it,

Yesterday was a classic for mine on the fifth tackle Woods was held down for ages, no penalty to us we kick the ball have them on their 10 meter line and get penalised for holding down that was far less time than the amount they held Woods down. I wish the referees would just count to 3 after ever tackle and if the player is still be held down just give an automatic penalty. The crap in the ruck is a blight on our game.

The Sharks yesterday complained about our markers not being square and got a penalty from the next set, but for min Robbie was square enough and the penalty was a bad one. The Sharks were only back about 7 metres in defence all game as well.

How many 4th and 5th tackle penalties did the Sharks get. The crusher report against Simona was another crap penalty, he will not be charged.

Our club for too long has never criticised referees and the refs know it. Once after a game I would love the coach to blow up and say the refereeing of only one team cost us the game. Get the fine but the next month the referees are human and don't want to be criticised and will be more lenient against us. Works well in the past for Bulldogs, Manly and Storm.

I think in general the refs do a decent job. But whenever you see a match where one team is gifted a result by a stream of penalties, it always seems to be the "lower" team on the receiving end.

True. Or the home side. Hometown refs have been a huge part of our game for a long time- it is just frustrating that we never get one.

unfortunately both Balmain and the Magpies never got much of a help from the refs and after merging the trend has continued and to be honest i cant see it changing

Our penalties may have been warranted, the only problem is when the other team does the same thing and doesn't get pinged.
Even in the previous game today Newcastle got hammered, and even warned, about play the ball indiscretions while the Storm wrestled and held on in every tackle without a worry.
We cop unwarranted penalties every week.
The refs today even told Woods to bugger off when he challenged them.

Yea the refereeing in the Newcastle/Melbourne game was as biased as I have seen in a long time. Melbourne would of and should of lost that game except for the dubious refereeing especially in the last 20 mins.

Definitely poor discipline - I would imagine all sides who are struggling defensively try to slow the play the ball so you would think they would have similar penalty stats to ours - be interesting to see if that is the case. The other interesting point is teams that are perceived to be good defensive sides seem to be given more latitude in holding the player down in tackles.

Tigers Badgered

It's fair to say the Wests Tigers and referee Gavin Badger aren't on the best of terms.

Three of the Tigers' four losses in 2016 have been refereed by Badger.

On top of that, the Tigers have managed to win just two of their last 15 games officiated by the veteran whistle-blower.

Five points Tigers Vs Knights

Bellamy,Hasler,Bennett,Toovey are known to rant about refs when things dont go there way.Refs hate it as it draws attention to their performances which may harm their livelihoods, richer clubs can get away with it as they can afford to pay the fines, clubs like WT cant, that said we are generally our own worst enemy, although i thought Ted deserved a penalty when he was hindered in front of the knights goalpost yesterday that would of levelled the scores.

100% spot on Stryker. I rarely see a penalty against us undeserved. There isn't a ref out there that goes into games these days with plans to rip off a team. It's just a cop out from the fan wanting to blame everything but their teams performance.
