It is currently "First Senior Football" which includes any RL Body (ARL/NSWRL/QRL) run Schools/State Competitions played under Senior Rules…

What would be classed as senior rules Watto

Anything above Under 16s I believe.

Thanks MM But they will still have to be registered with either QRL and NSWRL and that would be my point . Until a player is registered with either of the RL he has no allegiance . maybe that is the key . When you initially register the player they must answer a question stating who his allegiance is to .Maybe a good idea ??

this is where it becomes confusing. I think senior rules apply from U14 and above?

Well wouldn't the minimum age to play at NRL top level come into decision They changed it years ago when I think Josh Hannay first came into grade didn't they ???Thought it was either 16 or 17 .

I think that is one of the key fundamentals why this discussion is being raised. Its simply not fair to play for the State of the first NRL club you represent.

Recruitment boys like O'Sullivan attend Country Carnivals and sign kids from as young as 12yrs to 16yrs… Is it fair this kid might still grow up in Queensland, finally get dragged to Sydney when he is 18 to play NYC for the Roosters, and now he is a New South Welshmen???

My boy has lived in Gymea Bay NSW for 2 years, but has made it clear to his mum he will be returning to Queensland to live with me once he enters high school, simply to ensure he can play for Queensland...

The current rules are stupid!!! :rant

100% agree Watto But that is why the Showing your allegiance when you first register as a under say 16-17 (with parents guidance of course ) would be a good idea You could continue playing wherever you wanted to with no worries in the future about the powers that be changing your or there position don't you think ??

a player should be able to play for the state that:
1) they were born in
2) grew up in
3) played their 1st senior footy game in
if a player is eligible for more than one state based on the above points then the player should be allowed to choose which state he wants to represent.
in regards to the martin kennedy argument, i dont understand why nsw would want a player who doesnt want to play for them. give him to qld. we dont need. we should only want to pick players who have pride in this great state and want to play for the love of the sky blue jumper

I'm happy with this solution. The thing I would add, though, is that any player who plays at a given level (say NRL or lower grades) has to specify which state they are eligible when they register (or make their debut). This removes the issue of guys waiting until they are good enough before choosing one or the other.

yep i agree with that too. we've worked it out juro!
