it is a doubled edged sword situation.
let shoulder charge stay in game, and serious damage to a player could happen.
can you imagine the massive out cry from all and sundry.
then there is scenario of compensation, for long term pain/suffering.
ban it from 2013, and a part of history is gone.
personally would not be suprised if from pre-season of season 2013 it is banned.
why do you think they got rid of the spear tackle ?
players now get penalised for lifting above the horizontal
the chicken wing, grapple tackles are treated harshly.
_**A deterrent for this could be:**_
if you do a shoulder charge that goes wrong, and the player you hit goes off for remainder of game then so should you.
**Regardless If you get suspended, or not the following would occur:**
1\. You cannot play unitl the person you hit with shoulder charge is able to play.
so if he misses 2 weeks you are out for mimimum of two weeks.
2\. Once, the injured player resumes playing, _**and you have been suspended**_, your suspension period starts from that game. You will be suspended for a long time. So if he misses 2 or 3 week, then be prepared not to play for a while. eg. if injured players missses 2 week and you get suspended for 3 you are out for a total of 5 weeks.
