The Sharks have a lot off contract. Wade Graham would be a great buy for us and it'd stick one back up them.

That is an intelligent pick.A lot of signs that he will be the new Paul Gallen of the NRL.Gal has certainly taken him under his wing and with the sharks peptide drama we may be able to strike.Sironen,Graham, farah and Woods. There is an imposing base for a forward pack. Our backs are fine.

Agree about Wade Graham.

Daly Cherry Evans would also be a great signing.

….why???

no point wasting close to a million on a half when we have Moses and Brooks coming through. if one doesnt work out we can look at buying a half then but right now we need a Marquee 2nd rower or maybee center (although Seve looks like he might plug up that hole in the long term).

i really hope chris lawrence gets back to his best this year, because i think the tiges could really use a good (big?) centre. jennings would be great!

I agree with happy tiger.
go approach Jamie Lyon & Anthony Watmough.
worst they say is no.
if you don't ask, you don't get.

If we are talking about "marquee" signings then you have to target a key deficiency in the team.A couple of years ago we would have thought the halves however Brooks and Moses are both locked away long term. Our young outside backs are all showing huge promise. Speed being a vital asset that we have lacked in the past. Teddy, Nofo, Simona, Koro, Mr T etc all have striking attributes, and whilst they are raw i'm sure we are in business here.

At this point I would be looking at targeting the engine room, either a quality prop and/or back rower that plays with real aggression. If a real quality halves player came on the market it would be worth a look like a DCE or Foran. However we are already spending a lot of money on Brooks and Moses so I don't expect a marquee in this position.

Signing Ellis was such a success, it immediately elevated our pack. Someone in the style of player like a JWH from the Chooks. Big, aggressive, a leader. Woods and Galloway are decent players but they don't scare anyone I'm sorry. Nathan Brown might one day. Plus the injuries Keith gets it makes sense to try and replace him.

It won't be easy but im happy we have not wasted marquee money for the sake of it in the off season. Simply tried to lock up all our young players, get back a couple of older players who will be a good influence on a young squad in Richards and Halatau. Plus a few cheapish gambles that might work. Patterson, Tapau, Austin signings all are bargain signings which try and fill a gap in the roster where we were lacking.

I think this season will be a bit of a struggle again. Not as bad as last season's nightmare, however most sides will have too much power/nous for us. I don't expect to make the 8, However i do expect some exciting football and with a couple of marquee signings in 2015\. Once you get 25 more games in the young ones and by season 2015 we should be aiming for the Top 4 or Top 8 minimum. Hopefully Potter can show progress this year with the team, that gets him another 2 years in which in time the roster should be in a good place.

With Adam Blair, Galloway and woods taking a chunk of our forwards cap I have a feeling the admin and the coach will resist from making a marquee signing in the forwards.

I think its pretty even, around the park…

Moses and brooks are up to 400k a season. (Incentive based).

Lawrence is $300k a year.

Teddy's, nofo and simonas next contracts will all be large increases.

Which will have a fair chunk of cap used on halves and outside backs, as well as forwards.

Wade Graham?! Are people deadset serious? Liam Fulton is twice the worker he is, and give Sironen a year or two and he will be a better wide runner than Graham. Would be a complete waste of money. If you want a marquee backrow signing, get someone like Cordner or Watmough. Although given the amount of depth we have in the forwards this year, I'm willing to see how guys like Paterson, BMM, Sue, Taupau, Buchanan etc go before shopping around.

I agree we need an intimidating prop. Our current mob of Woods, Galloway, Blair, Taupau, Ava and Buchanan will do the job, but aren't going to dominate games.

We're pretty light on in the backs. Teddy, Nofa, Lawrence, Simona and Richards are our starting five, with Koro and Lulia the only depth players with NRL experience. Like some of the forwards, it's a make or break year for Lawrence. He needs to show his old form and stay on the park, otherwise I'd be looking for a replacement. Three potential players I'd look at are Kevin Locke, Josh Hoffman or Josh Morris.

My major concern at the moment is Woods' knee. If the operation comes up trumps, then there is less pressure on our front row stocks. But if he continues to have trouble in this regard, then we definitely need to target another quality prop for next season.

the thing with forwards is- one forward cannot change your attack/defense.

we did that with blair.. we thought that one marquee forward will help us with our defense and aggression but that happens very rarely. we need the whole forward pack to work as a pack rather than go looking for ONE agro forward.

there is not one aggressive forward in the melbourne pack/the past dragons pack yet they dominated the defense.

with wade graham would like to see him perform after the drugs drama he bulked upwell after he left panthers as a skiny 5/8 . paul gallen must of taught him a bit extra ?
lets also see how martin kennedy goes this year he was super strong and his teammates said he should be a powerlifter not a footballer and for some reason didn't get a run at the roosters later in the year ??
