Will Cleary be able to grab the attention of any quality players , I'm not sure
I hope so , but something tells me we will be disappointed with our ins and outs for next year
What makes you think this way Happy?
Insanity perhaps Flip
Seriously though , so many clubs can offer so much more Flip
You can play for the WT's or the Dogs for an example (purposely picked not a great club ) and have state of art training facilities or backward ones
A club with a history of making the finals or a club that has virtually no history
It's a no brainer for most players , they might come to WT's but they'll want overs
And we can't do that moving forwards
I wasn't kidding , if the young fella was today given the option to play for the WT's I'd tell him to wait and see what options open up first
I know what you mean Hap, but our past doesn't necessarily have to be our future, things can change. Honestly, this team just needs the right balance and the right structures to play to, which may not necessarily mean we have to spend overs buying heaps of new players. We have some good players - they are just unmotivated & distracted and the team as a whole is completely out of whack, but It doesn't have to stay this way forever.
Look at St George this season compared to last - they have completely turned their game around in a short period of time because they had an honest talk in the off season, have put in some hard work and purchased a few key (but not particularly marquee) players in Vaughan, McCrone and McInnes, who have managed to give the team better balance and the strike power they so lacked last year.
There is no reason why we can't do the same if we aim at buying the right players to compliment what we already have. Of course there are a few we need to shed as well, but by all accounts we've already got McQueen, now if we could just entice guys like Whare, Tupou, Matulino and depending on what happens with our halves maybe someone like Chad Townsend to partner either Moses or Brooks (depending on who stays) I think we will be a much better balanced side and way more competitive week to week.
I must admit I wasn't a big fan, but after hearing him speak and seeing how quickly he has got a handle on our overall problems and what to do to rectify them, I feel that Cleary would definitely be able to attract exactly the right kind players we need in order for us to move forward. It will take some time, I'm not expecting miracles, but I have faith.
