Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Think what you like about Benji & his ability to coach.
There’s only one way to think. He’s proven absolute zero and has nothing on his coaching resume. There aren’t many topics on the forum that are 100% fact, but that is one of them. No one can rationally argue against that. The fact we are going to go through the motions of another pre-season with him in charge proves we are an unserious club.

Where to start on that one?
Our roster was bent out of shape in around 2017 and we’re only just recovering. The shift back to a development focus in around 2022 was probably the right move but comes with significant pain attached.

The main perpetrators are gone.

interesting … so how much longer are you going to give Benji a free pass ?

.

I’m assuming if they are serious about May which seems to be the case if they have met with him, then JL has given Richo and Benji the thumbs up on him
I hope they met with him to judge the character of the guy, something I think the last mob were absolutely diabolical at.

Thats mostly correct, but Benji played a big role this year. He didnt have to start the year with an untested 18 year old steering the ship. He didnt have to give a lot of the kids a run this year but he chose to.
The fact is, Benji told all and sundry that we worked on our defence all off season and it would remain our focus all year long. It was pathetic and ended up being our worst return in the clubs history. You can blame the kids if you want to...if they are playing top grade, they should be able to tackle. If they spent all off season concentrating on defence, they should be able to tackle.

He said himself in a press conference if he thinks it’s best for the club he’ll walk. Bottom four would probably end in that decision in my mind.

We’ll see … I don’t see too many coaches in any sport voluntarily walk away from their high paid gigs because they think they have performed badly or it’s best for the club… maybe Benji will be the exception though

Yet to see it at our club.
All we have managed is sacking 2 for turning up for training late. IMO we are clutching at straws there for any excuse possible

We have told other players they are free to leave, they dug their heels in and want to see out their lucrative contracts

Roosters told May he is free to leave, he is leaving. Thats how you piss players off your roster.
I ain’t believing the Richo hard nose approach at our club till I see those tough decisions from him.

To me, and I could be well off the mark, Richo is making decisions in Benjis name.
He hasn’t stamped his authority at the CEO of the club. He has a lot more experience than Benji, shouldn’t think twice about telling Benji who is boss.

We don’t want another spoon, we want strong leadership.
All Benji is delivering is smiles at training.

He is our favourite son and I love him to bits for what he did as a player but it’s time to get serious
I 100% agree with what you are saying.

Marshall is WAY too soft.
We haven't really had a good cleanout. Just asked our hiring mistakes that we have signed up for 4 years to get contracts elsewhere 1.5 years in!
Richo is a General Manager, tough, but no where near Phil Gould tough.

Yet in Richo's case, is that such a bad thing?
Pro:
We swap people and get a driven roster.
We get a better team.

Con:
we swap players all the time.
players treat us like a flight deck/business (and not Easts, I don't get the loyality there).

Look we need a cleanout. I don't know if we need a butcher cleanout like Parra, Saints, etc.
