Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We need to be very careful here and not lose both Galvin and Latu..
I personally think Galvin is going as the money he will get due to Brown will be above us. We also don't want to piss off Latu by saying you are our back up and need to wait for Galvin to make up his mind. I know he is under contract but a player will always remember been the 2nd pick.

Roosters, Dogs and Manly will offer big money for Galvin
Won’t go to manly

taylan was offered a nsw cup deal for this year and an upgrade to the top 30 next year

believe its why it has broken down
If that’s true, that is idiotic by the club. Yes I get it, he was accused of a serious crime but he has been cleared of that by the courts. Whether you agree with it or not, the world and rugby league moves on.

He’s been out of the game for a year, but so have players who have had ACL or other serious injuries, and injuries take more time to get back to full strength. We also have his brother at the club who is a key player who constantly speaks about how important his family is.

Unfortunately this seems to be too much of a business approach and lacks a human and man management approach which is essential in todays game with todays players.

You need to find a balance as a club. Either take a hard stance and say no to Taylan up front and not even entertain signing him. Or if you are entertaining singing him, show it the respect it deserves and back him as a player you show value in (this doesn’t stop you from offering him a reduced rate and shorter term contact or adding behavioural clauses). But to offer a NSW cup player to a guy who, let’s be honest is a better player than at least 10 players in our top 30 is fairly disrespectful (putting his legal troubles aside). Let’s remember this is a player who a 4 time premiership winning club in Penrith was eager to retain over many other well respect and talent players.

If people are being honest, we’ve [This word has been automatically removed]ed up here. This has to potential to not only miss out on Taylan but also create disfunction with Terrell. We would have been better off not even perusing Taylan if this is true. We’ve just created the opportunity for animosity with a key squad member when we didn’t even really need to. That’s just my opinion.

who knows re seibold
Couldn't see Galvin going to a club on a rebuild, if he does leave it'll be to a club established ready to make a premiership run. Bulldogs, Penrith maybe Roosters if they could get the roster in better shape next year, just can't see him wanting to go somewhere and have another 2 - 3 years of building. Manly still have some great players, the other thing is, how many of them will the new coach want if Seibold is punted. We've seen it everytime a new coach comes in its the dreaded 5 year plan for the rebuild. Sacking the coach just causes too much uncertainty. Seibold might deserve it, iv no idea, the other elephant in the room is Isaac Moses, Brooks, Seibold and who knows who else in his stable might be shown the door, the club might be trying to get rid of his influence at the club with all his clients, they still have heaps more, so it might be nothing but they might use the opportunity to be cutting his influence and if they do go for Galvin are hoping a whopping pay day will be enough even with the manager in his ear telling him otherwise. Maybe by then Galvin has new representation. Who knows, I'm just spitballing.

I think the comparisons you make are not apples for apples. Injured players come back under the guidance of the club and continue to train in some capacity. Taylan has not trained with a club at all. The truth is, no one knows how he will return as a player.

On behavioural clauses - No one needs behavioural clauses - these things that you would want in his contract are grounds for immediate dismissal anyway. No need for a clause. What would you put in there anyway? How would you define it? There are catch all clauses that cover behaviour in all employment contracts. Look at your own employment contract. I'm willing to bet if you punched someone on the street and they identified you as working for your company, there is some clause allowing them to terminate you without specifically having to say you are not allowed to commit violence in a clause.

Lastly and most importantly, these poor bastards in our current squad have busted their ass in pre-season, won 2 games and narrowly lost 1 and some prick is going to demand a spot in firsts without any form to his name? What would you say if the coach dropped you for a guy that hasn't played in a year and the team has been winning?

Either way, it is a risk for the club, however with spots open, you'd think it was a wink wink nudge nudge from the club to say, mate...show us you're serious. Show us you've still got it and show us you can stay out of trouble until the dust blows over and one of those spots is going to be yours. By June 30, he would have been on a full NRL contract (form permitting). If he is too short sighted to see that, then he is too far up his own ass and better he demands a first grade spot elsewhere.

I want to sign him, he needs to offer some good will - not come in making the big demands so early in the piece.

No surprise Brooks won't be offered another contract, that was our clubs grandest mistake.
I actually think that's a huge surprise.

If Brooks wasn't there to be DCE's understudy. ... Then why is he there?

I mean sure, as a Halfback... Brooks makes a good 5/8. ...

DCE leaving, do you punt the person who has been learning from him? Probably yes, because LB.

Manly may be putting a lot of faith in Oritoni Large very soon.

Dumb ass move if true. We have like 2 top 30 spots available! Who are we keeping these for?? Just don’t get it, I could understand if we had a great top 30 full of top class players. But we don’t, stupid!!
I think a NSW Cup contract makes complete sense. We have two available spots and need a 2nd rower and prop. Olam is no certainty to be medically retired. They are guaranteeing Taylan a top 30 spot next year when the likes of Feledy can be moved on.

What were Manly thinking?!

They've let DCE, Fainu and Humphries go. Surely they've got a replacement lined up already, just like the Roosters did.
Onitoni large comes to mind.

Joey Walsh is also on their books.
I suspect Manly are thinking of forgetting Brooks and just go two very young halves. LB could also move to hooker Ben Hunt style which might actually suit him.
DCE is something special and I would be wanting him to be working with the next gen as much as possible, even if he is leaving.

The question is can Siebold manage a team and train 2x young halves. I honestly doubt it.

It makes complete sense to the accountants.
It makes no sense to anyone else.

Are we going to be a club treating players like comodities? things we buy off the shelf?

Or do we treat them like people?

I suspect the real reason is that maybe we don't want Taylan May. Yes he is a good player, but he may disrupt our entire playing group. He does have attitude...

Yeah, we travelling nicely, I don’t want any disruptions, we aren’t resilient enough yet.
But I do want a good centre. 🤷‍♂️

If they have concerns about him “ disrupting the playing group” then it would make zero sense to offer him any type of deal….they no doubt know him better than anyone posting in this thread, but the playing group seems strong and they have his brother there who seems to have a good head on his shoulders wih his work on and off the field … if they still don’t think they can keep him in line, then make no offer to him and onto the next …

Well I'm not an accountant and it makes complete sense to me.

It's called maintaining a balanced squad. Olam is still there.

Are you saying WT aren't treating Taylan like a person because he has been offered a Cup contract? Keeping in mind he has been out of the game for a year and likely needs 6-8 months in reggies to get his timing etc back....
