Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

might be having a good season but realistically he is no better than Jennings or Momirovaski.

People tend to grow better when under Madge 🙂

No thanks to Parker, we need some talent and this kid is just solid. I’ve honestly had enough of just buying players that can do the job. French has speed, something we have NONE of, it would be nice for a bit of a change, speed can’t be coached, the other things can. I will take French thanks.

So u would take a player that is out of form, but has speed, over a player with average speed and great form???

Parkers actually been pretty decent for Manly this year. He's definetly a center, not a winger. As others have stated though he's similar to most players on our roster in that he's 'solid.' I'd rather look elsewhere for someone with a bit of flair

@TheDaBoss form isn’t constant, it fluctuates and has its ceiling varies depending on natural ability. Speed is the only natural trait that can’t be coached. Simple. Speed is class. We have been moaning about having an outside back with speed, also he is a very good leaper, so attacking wise I don’t think we have a problem here. Defence possibly yes it has some deficiencies which can be worked on just like Nofoaluma has. He reminds me a lot of JAC.

I know these pair are probably not what everyone would like, but they maybe cheap, cheap as Benji.
Canberra have signed pommy test half George Williams for 3 years, which will leave Seizer and Sam Williams on the outer.

All our recruitment strategy will hinge on who we can offload and if Benji and Robbie go around again. No use buying a half if we have Benji and Reynolds on our books....and if they both go we will need to spend big on a replacement.

I personally do not see how we are going to move many players on, so I see a few budget signings at best.

@Madge I'd take French for the right price to play on the wing, scored 35 tries in 47 games. Hasn't played a FG game this year has he? Could get him on the cheap.

Problem is he needs a decent centre inside of him to get him away.

@Cultured_Bogan he has not played a game of first grade this year, correct. So we can get him for cheap.

@jirskyr We could of done with any of these 2 guys.. Joe Stimson (Melbourne Storm, 2022), Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (Penrith Panthers, 2020)

DWZ is over hyped and on too much money,Stimpson is average/fair.

I agree - average players. I'm not against signing average players, but we also have average players already, so I won't get excited about it either.

Revisit this conversation when Bulldogs sign GOOD (@hsvjones' word) to GREAT (my word) players.

Actually not really true. Speed can absolutely be coached - sprinting technique, running gait, fitness, balance etc. There are sprint coaches for a reason, same as why Olympic-level sprinters have coaches.

Obviously, there is a maximum top speed for players. But also there is a maximum strength for players too, same as maximum leaping ability or any other physical attribute.

Or put it another way - you can't make a skinny guy a brick s-house and you can't make a massive guy skinny. So speed and strength are part genetics, but also totally coach-able.

You have speed and then you have speed

Depends whether you want short or long range speed

For me I'd rather having halves with speed over the first 5-10 and then your back 5 who can finish a move off
