Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Magpies, imo he made his choice, those advising him would have known if we wernt a priority for him he wouldn't be a development priority for us. If they knew what they were on about, so he should expect it.
I would play him off the bench, probably at 14 or in Bird's current role. Playing him in reserve grade would just bring more negative attention to the club, playing group and Benji from the media/his management. You can just imagine the stuff Isaac Moses will come out with if Galvin in reserve grade.

If he is on the bench, they can't complain about him be ostracised etc. On the bench he can cover the halves and the backrow/lock.

I understand your point totally and agree there would be media attention, but in all honestly we can't just keep a spot open perpetually for Galvin to keep him, his manager or the media happy. They're all going to chip us anyway. I'm all for a bench spot if his form warrants it, but imo it doesn't. That's on us and the way we've brought him through though. We should have promoted and relegated him throughout last year and this year to give him a chance to fix the defficiencies in his game. Now it just seems him and his camp think he is entitled to a first grade spot.

Didn’t Lomax just sign at Parramatta? Why are they letting him go already ? He is one of their best …

We also need three forwards … that’s where you win games …. Although you can lose games in the backs with crappy defence …. We know all about that over the years ..
Yes he did! The talk of him leaving has no basis in anything, just hopefulness on our part I think lol. That said, Parramatta doesn’t seem to be a happy place this year and we all know that Zacie boy gets very unhappy very quickly, which would beg the question why would he want to sign here? Saints to Parra to Wests Tigers…can’t see that happening. He must have a career death wish! 😂

Did Latu come across as a 7. Or have we tried forming him into one in the reserves.
Latu can play left or right side and has a very good skill-set.. He has a strong running game and is genuinely quick. His ball playing skill is excellent for such a young player. He intuitively seems to choose the best option with ball in hand every time. He is aware of his surroundings and positions himself to make breaks and when he does he invariably scores. Link that with his tough defence and the foundations are there to make a very good player noting he is 19. The only downside is his brother Manase is not at our club as he was a very good young hooker.

The highlighted words are extremely important. I have never been convinced Galvin has this skill and it is a skill that can't be coached.

Wests Tigers have emerged as potential contenders for the signature of off-contract Newcastle forward Kai Pearce-Paul.

The England international, who has made 29 NRL appearances for the Knights, was compared to Sonny Bill Williams when he first arrived from Super League, and although he has shown glimpses of his potential during his time in the Hunter, he has not been as dominant as he was in the UK.

The 198-centimetre, 108-kilogram back-rower, who is unlikely to be re-signed by the Knights, is keen on a new start and several NRL clubs have expressed interest, most notably the Tigers.

As yet, no deal has been struck but if the parties can come to terms for an immediate switch – rather than Pearce-Paul arriving at the end of the season – it would free up the money Newcastle need to immediately bring out-of-favour Rooster Dom Young back to the club.

Young is contracted to the Roosters until the end of 2027, but the club is at loggerheads with the Knights over whether they should pay any of the winger’s freight.

Looking at potential signings for next year and considering realistic options and salary cap, I would be looking at bringing in the following:

Taylan May, Kai Pearce-Paul, Tyrone May, Harrison Hassett and a quality starting lock (perhaps a swap for Galvin. I would also look at re-signing Staines and Doueihi to one year deal, club friendly deals for outside back and halves depth. These types of signings would give the squad the best possible balance in terms of positions, competition, depth and salary cap. Ideally we would want two options in each position with 3 in the middle forwards.

1. Bula (Mason)
2. Turuva (Staines)
3. To'a (Doueihi/Bird)
4. Taylan May (Makasini)
5. Skelton (L.Laulilii)
6. Latu Fainu (Galvin)
7. Luai (Doueihi/Tyrone May)
8. Terrell May (Hunt/Twal/K.Laulilii)
9. Koroisau (Da Silva)
10. Pole (Sione Fainu/Seyfarth)
11. Samuela Fainu (Hassett)
12. Pearce-Paul (Seyfarth/Bird)
13. New Lock (Tyrone May/Bird)

14. Galvin
15. Hunt
16. Sione Fainu
17. Bird

18. Da Silva (hooker)
19. Twal (Prop/Lock)
20. Seyfarth (Prop/Second Row)
21. Doueihi (Centre/Half)
22. Staines (Wing)
23. Makisini (Centre/Wing)
24. Luke Laulilii (Wing)
25. Tyrone May (Lock/Half)
26. Mason (Fullback/Half)
27. Kit Laulilii (Prop)
28. Hassett (Second Row)
29. Saukuru (Centre/Wing)

Naden, Faataape, Feledy, Matamua, Tumeth and Sullivan all free to go.
Agree with Taylan May, Tyrone May & Hassett. I'd look at Jack Hetherington & Jaiyden Hunt as well.

Not excited about re-signing Staines if May comes in.

Re-sign Doueihi. Covers centres, fullback & halves.

Let Feledy, Matamua, Tumeth & Sullivan go- but retain Naden & Faataape for KOE & depth.

Then you blend juniors off the back of that. Might be tempted to get Kurt Falls on a 30th top 30 spot if Sullivan moves on.

If you let Galvin go & he excels elsewhere- the Tigers will get bashed in the media.

I agree with many- let him play KOE & fill in as required- the same as you do with any other player that signs elsewhere. It is far more important that Latu plays well, than Galvin play 1st grade.

If Latu plays well, there is zero reason for the media to question Galvin playing KOE.

I believe the Tigers will get better press if they hold Galvin & make him play out his contract. There are already favourable reports for the Tigers holding their ground.

It reads like an invitation!

Surely we do it right now this instant

Yeah obviously his form needs to be there. I actually think he would be better off the bench in general as he’s an unstructured player. He would be much better served coming on after 30mins when the game opens up, taking advantage of the tired forwards around the middle and edge of the ruck.
