Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

latu has got to get on the field first
I think nearly all our supporters agree that Latu Fainu has plenty of talent and looks to be a dominant NRL player of the future, however we cannot throw all our eggs into the one basket with him as our regular halves partner for Luai.
We don’t even know if that combination will work as neither are players that command the ball as a first receiver and take control of a game and adding to that are Latu’s ongoing injury concerns.
With this in mind we need fierce competition for Latu to earn his NRL halves position on a regular basis, I think signing Tyrone May if we can get him for a reasonable price of no more than 300k would add competition and a good experienced option and I still think we should be looking at a more genuine number 7 option who would also add competition at a low cost of around 300k and I believe someone like Tannah Boyd would be perfect.
If we had Tannah Boyd and Tyrone May playing as our NSW Cup halves, our team would be vastly improved and it would be genuine competition for them to force their way into our NRL team.

Piakura is a better footballer than either of those other two.
Plays with a lot more energy and purpose, has good speed for a back rower and is a genuine tackle break/line break option,
Adding to this I think he could be signed for somewhere around 500-600k maximum, so you are saving a couple of hundred thousand in our salary cap compared to signing KPP or Fifita also.

Good player. He’s a hard hitting 13 Broncos don’t use him properly. I would sign both he and KPP.
It wouldn’t be a bad thing if we ended up with both of them.
This would give us the flexibility of having Sam Fainu, Seyfarth, KPP and Piakura all competing to in be our starting 11,12 & 13.
They all have the size, mobility and look capable of playing as middles or on an adge, so it would give us much better depth and flexibility.

Kapow would add beef but would probably be surplus to requirements if Seyfarth and Twal move back to the prop rotation after the addition of a true 13, I don’t hate the idea.
Also a left side attack of Luai KPP Taylan and Turuva has me frothing tbh get it done.
Would also love to see Latu develop a long term partnership with his brother on the right with the improved Douiehi / To’a Skelton combo.
Throw in a 13 of Tyrone May or/and Piakura / Kobe I’m seeing a ‘26 premiership push from very rose coloured glasses

I agree it’s a concern, particularly when his contract value is north of 700k.
Stats are very deceiving around tackles made as the attacking team will run in the direction of certain players that don’t demonstrate good line speed and don’t hit hard in defence. The alarming stat is he has very few tackle breaks for a man of his size, speed and skill, that tells you he is only running the ball half hearted.
As I keep saying we might have to take a chance on him as there is not many quality back rowers available, the other 2 options being David Fifita who has plenty of bad traits of his own and hence the reason why the likes of Des Hasler and Billy Slater do not rate him or Brandon Piakura who is reportedly out of favour with Madge and the Broncos.
Piakura would be the cheapest option and probably has the most upside, I’d be having a good look at potentially signing him.
Absolutely agree to the point I may as well delete my account as you have my point of view. I honestly hope I'm wrong and if he lands here I will support him. But like u have said his stats point out his side of the field is targeted in a bad side and that's all it shows

There was a story at the time , when Madge got moved on , that Reynolds was off him completely . Reynolds and the burgess boys . I remember hearing it clearly at the time from a mate . It was the first time I heard about the snake in the locker room .
Years before anyone brought it up in the media . True or not true I dunno, but it’s interesting history is repeating again for Madge . I’d almost feel bad for him if it wasn’t the 4th time . I mean seriously , he can’t possibly be that stubborn and fixed in his ways.

I feel the same. I would normally feel sorry for the guy but seriously how many times does this need to happen before he realises he is the problem. I don't feel sorry for him at all now.

There's a few options around.

Jack Cole as you mentioned.
Brad Schneider.

One of the NZ options; Metcalfe, Temaire Martin, Chanel Harris.

Some ordinary options like:
Dean Hawkins at Parra.
Chad Townsend.
Jake Clifford

Then a few more guys in superleague.
Some back up halves definitely floating around.
What's your take on the 5/8 from the Roosters Demps, you're one of the keen eyes on the forum, that young 5/8 Smith. He's able to negotiate so they can free up money, I'd chase him so we can use him to get Latu right as a fill in if Latu gets injured. I'd give Latu 2 more years to get his body right after that the hope ends. If Latu can't get his body sorted, I'd keep Smith as a 5/8. If he can and can get consistent, I'd keep Smith as our utility. 14 on the bench, he seems to be able to read the game, but anyone can look great in a team with a solid pack.
