But they are not happy with their Halfback at the moment and have reshuffled the deck chairs to get Paps in at Fullback.
Until they are settled in the halves I can’t see them releasing Paps.
They may be paying 200,000 k next year but I assure you if Melbourne was forced to pay even 700,000 to keep Paps I’m sure they would. It would still be a steal on a value / output ratio.
The only variable to this discussion is if Paps actually wants to leave the club to move back to Sydney not to dissimilar to how the RTS move to warriors.
If his keen on staying there, there is no chance for 2020 let alone 2021.
However putting pressure on Melbourne to retain him for more money opens up the opportunity to stealthily sign a less valued squad member under Melbournes nose. Usually the way the big clubs play the game.
