Wests Tigers add experience with signing of former Warriors, Titans outside back

Thirty-six months since he played his last match in the NRL, a former New Zealand Warriors and Gold Coast Titans outside back has signed with the Wests Tigers.

Following the signings of Bunty Afoa, Ethan Roberts, Jack Attard, Javon Andrews, Jock Madden, Kai Pearce-Paul and Mavrik Geyer, the Tigers have continued to add more experience to their squad with the signing of Patrick Herbert.

A two-time Maori All Stars representative, Herbert joins the Tigers after last playing first-grade for the Titans in 2022 before being granted an immediate release from his contract in the early months of the 2023 NRL season.

Training with the NRL squad at the moment, the 28-year-old adds a wealth of experience to the club's outside back stocks, having previously racked up 38 appearances and nine tries for the Titans and a further 21 matches and 76 points for the New Zealand Warriors.

He also spent time in the St George Illawarra Dragons system as a junior, where he was once captain of their Under-20s NYC side.

It is unknown at this stage if the deal is an NSWRL contract or includes any NRL components.

They were all un-signed at the end of the season so would have been available to sign T&T contracts.

Herbert seems a waste to me. Theres the point that we can sign as many T&T players, however I would hope that Herbert isn't prioritised over the development of Max Taotua or Tino Tavana. Getting one of the players I mentioned may also do that, but those guys all have recent NRL experienced and development upside. A 28 year old injury prone player who hasn't played in 3 years really does not have much, if any upside.
Tavana and Taotua need to earn their spots, not be given it to them on a silver platter. Competition for places where the best man wins is how successful sides are built

Need to aim higher
Apart from KPP ,we've just hired a whole bunch of fringe players ..in our position,we need better
Taylan May played 5 game’s last year. He is essentially a marquee centre signing for 26, KPP is a good pick up, plenty of improvement in the depth department. Last year we had about 20 players to call upon for the whole season.

There is cash for another marquee but the market is very thin. Perth has signed no one of note yet. I trust richo to deliver

i think there smart buys for the time being
Throwing darts and hope one sticks!
Rather have a proven middle...a better 9 sub than Hope..and contingent on Bulas decision..a 2026 ready full back..plus a nrl ready 13
Any of these will add immediate impact which we need to get off the bottom rungs of the ladder
This bloke,Geyer ,Madden Panthers no 4 fullback and most others we've recruited except KPP and maybe Bunty are the fish John West rejects..and from much better coaching structures than wts
Underwhelmed

Geez. Thats horrible. Hopefully he'll be back.

Don't want to give the storm a leg up, but given the breach in the duty of care, they should get that back into their cap.
They will get full cap dispensation bt try replacing tha Dally M seconrower of the year at this stage of the year
TPJ as a left field thought?
